This whole thread has been founded on rumour and speculation...
we have attracted udemy instructors to our FORUM, they have known by now that we RIP their courses
I think you will find that most instructors will know full well that once something is published in the web, that it'll be stolen by someone, somewhere.
and distribute their coupons.
The coupons are meant to be distributed, that is the point.
I think they will change their security and it would be difficult to rip their courses.
I've yet to see any technology that can stop ripping. It's a fact of life that once you send a stream out it can be captured.
The assumption that there will be less free coupons because the course is being ripped is preposterous. The free coupons are to promote the course and raise the course in the udemy ranks. The money is made in the backend - other courses, add ons and services which may be promoted within the course. And of course the list.
This forum exists to share stolen material. Why should udemy be any different? There is no real loss to the course instructor as those who download from here are unlikely to ever buy. There are no additional costs as the course is already made. There is a benefit, in that if people get to know you they're more likely to buy future material. Even those who have downloaded for free...
I have spoken to the (few) udemy instructors I know personally and none have express any concern about their courses being ripped - they accept it's a fact of life.
Very well said.

it seems we are playing chicken little here and also repeating things alot.
which means very little, since it is not in our hands anyway. but for future postings, let's get some basics again. (I know,... I'm repeating too)
coupons are public and shared on other sites too. coupons serve a purpose, that's why instructors make them available in the first place.
there may be some instructors that don't like the idea their courses are being ripped. stands to reason, since they lose the benefits the coupons are supposed to provide.
this and only this sub section has gained alot of exposure, causing possible ripples.
these are the facts I can agree on.
and this is my proposal /opinion-
1. coupon section should remain open in freebie section. (no reason not to be. nothing illegal or exclusive with us doing that.)
2. maybe we/they should limit rips to the vip section only. (this will separate the issue.)
3. lower the exposure specifically from this sub section. possibly by removing search robots/rankings/whatever. (google's top ten really isn't a good place for this site as whole).
how's that? can we all work on this as a base?
Absolutely agree.
