5. AND THIS, IMO, IS A POSSIBLE REAL ISSUE-
I think the reason we got on instructors radar and collar is because somehow our udemy subsite has gotten a bit viral. something has drawn the public's attention. if you scan the posts here, you see there are a strong flock of newbees since october. and they only frequent the udemy section. Where are they all coming from? I got nothing against newbees except when you open a door that wide, you end up getting quite a few idiots in the mix too. I'll refrain from explaining why some are idiots. Let's just say, they're not family.

to me, I think that's a hole we need to patch(#5), otherwise it's just gonna get worse.
any input about this?
i don't mind new people, they are welcome with open arms... the fact that we are growing means that
the courses get more attraction and so people see that giving out courses helps them sell more and get reviews...

but we can always move the section... lets deal with the problems one by one...
Since I joined in November I can share my story. I was observing your website since October (this section is for everybody so people don't even need to login). Why I was observing one may ask? Cause you were google top 10ish on many searches of particular coupons - I you want to cut out traffic (little weird but let's say that I understand) just disable robots of searching that part of the forum.
I don't get much right of vote since I'm really new and 2 weeks ago I didn't know how this section even works (thx spiral3d :) )... but my opinion is that we have something unique here and we should do everything we can to protect this. I know that some people might be angry about rips. I think it's better the way it is, cause I remember me and my buddies years back... for new games we're going to piratebay... Nothing I'm proud of now. I bought each game I get that way and my Steam is over 200 games... But I guess that some people don't have that money and making learning a big taboo will get them in situation when they'll can't get money because the knowledge they could obtain would be in some stronghold without option to get in for poor peasants. I'm definitely not rich, but I wouldn't make this forum or Udemy banned for people who can't pay. And some people wouldn't buy anything just because - truth is they're probably downloading stuff to their HDDs only for them and they'll never use anything that they hoard.
Okay - too long. I just meant to say thank you ALL for this forum, and hey, I bought courses even if I know about DownloadHelper and it works perfectly... Cause I want everybody to be paid for their work... but if I didn't have money for them (you know that in some places 10$ is one month salary?) I'll probably rip them also if they could teach me something important for my work. And if I'll get rich (or even richer) I'd just repay for that and say big "thank you" to instructor in the review.
you clearly don't seem to understand the situation... rips = less or no coupons in the future.. which means no more free courses for you or any body else for that matter... you can get information about game development everywhere... on this forum, from other websites and from torrent sites...

but the difference is that most udemy courses are created by people like you and me... and NOT giant companies who earn so much that ripping their courses doesn't effect them in the slightest...

basically if you want to continue getting free udemy courses, we need to solve the ripping problem... it's small now... but problems tend to get
bigger if you don't solve them right away...

and while bots won't be able to find the section... people will... and that's the whole point...
OK NOW WE ALL AGREE THAT RIPPING MUST BE STOPPED
THIS MEANS NEW ROLES FOR THIS SECTION >>> WHICH MEAN MODERATOR FOR IT

WE MUST TAKE ACTION BEFORE INSTRUCTORS GET ANGRY SO NOT TO LOSE THEIR USEFUL INFOS
Yeah if the courses where mirrired we might not have jeprodised access;.
Oh, Maybe it's my English, my rethoric, maybe hour, maybe beer and maybe all combined... Blush I agree with you I was just saying that it doesn't stop the situation - whatever we'll do it's just gonna stop it for now. Here. First thing that'll help beside mods are:
- STICKY THREAD with simple rules inserted. Ie. No aff codes in links. No rips. No posting same code 3 times - use forum searcher. Etc. (that would help me when I come here and I bet it'd be helpful for many others coming to this forum). Besides that shouldn't be hard and combined with
- this section of forum blocked for non-users of this forum
it should help.
I make courses for udemy and I understand that some people are going to rip them. Just like making a WSO means some people are going to share them. The WSO makers have to know this will happen and they do just as the udemy course makers have to know this will happen and now we all know they do. The internet was made great because of its freedom. The internet is now not as great as it used to be because of its regulation. The torrents and sites like bbhf do more than just share "stolen" material. They also advertise material free of charge and that is exactly why udemy sends course makers to bbhf. If I try to market to 20 people who don't know how the internet works it will be expensive. If I market to people that know how the internet works and let them think they are getting something for free they may give me literally thousands of dollars in free advertising by spreading my link all over the internet. After everyone finds out about the course I cancel the coupon and now people know about it and want it and pay for it. Some people will rip it whether they are from bbhf or pbs.org. But they must advertise the course and therefore my name to share it. At bbhf they will upload the ripped file to complicated sites that try to plant malware on your computer unless you know what you're doing. The common consumer wont take the risk and if they want to course bad enough they'll just pay for it and feel better about themselves for doing so and will be more likely to actually use it rather than store it on their hard drive. Some will get creative and learn how to negotiate crap sites like ziddu.com and endure stupid songs from vube and annoying popups selling car insurance and crap like that. They may then use their knew knowledge to help advertise my course to others who would not otherwise see it. If 80 people "steal" it and 20 people decide they would rather buy it instead of listen to some 13 year old belt out a cover song then I get 20 sales I wouldn't otherwise get. I also get to add 100 to my list to market to later. You can think you're a smooth player but you just might be the one being played.
What about letting the courses get ripped is stages before they are updated. And certain people will not want to wait and therefore pay to get the update in a fashion better for learning.
Normal - no need to read your nick after reading your post ;) - exactly my earlier point - no emotions, just economics - sometimes it's better that way.
LikeICare... Good idea (without sarcasm (and now it sounds sarcastic.. shoot)) - what about instructors giving "early stage rips"...
But didn't Udemy already allows that? 5 minutes free preview anybody could f5 as long as they want. Rips aren't giving certificates though and rips won't give you some great discount codes or info you'll get from instructors... Beside that rips won't give you comfort of knowing that somewhere in this harsh world is a man or woman just clapping his/her hands with joy seeing rising Udemy account filled with dollars.
