I was asked (via PM) if the VT scan below for Perfect Sales Letter Template (exe) is a false positive.

I answered the person but I will post my (slightly edited) reply here, just in case enquiring minds want to know.

I provided the download links for these extra products but I didn't have time to run a VT scan. So, I always encourage you to do a Virus Total (or local) scan on anything you download then use your discretion on files that seem suspect.

MY RESPONSE:

When looking at a Virus Total scan, you should always look for the anti-virus program YOU use.

This report shows that an anti-virus program called SecureAge APEX detected something malicious --- but there is no description of what it detected. Without a description of the malicious file, you can't do a web search for it (by name) to determine if it is a false positive or something to steer clear of.

Again, in the event that SecureAge APEX is the anti-virus YOU use, you have a choice to make.

You can...

- Delete the executable file altogether;

- Use the executable program in a safe environment, like in a "sandbox." Most anti-virus programs feature a sandbox area where you can use the program without it affecting your computer's system;

- Ignore the warning and take your chances (I never recommend this)

- Ignore the warning because the engine that detected it isn't the program you use (BINGO!)
