I have tested this 2 of my VM environments and not having any issues. What you could try is disconnecting your Internet during installation. Once installed, make sure you block the application from accessing the Internet. Either by adding the host information or blocking it by using a firewall.
This is what I got after 2 installs
This is installed no differently then CS 8.
I disconnected my internet
hosts file setup good
and camtasia still not working !

So when you are installing, you have the Internet Connection cut off correct? I have only had this happen after I install it and then cut the connection to add the key. So when you install it, you need to have the Internet cut off.. Let me know what happens.

Do I use the serial keys OR "Completely block the program executables in your firewall" OR add the host file entries or ???
How do I "Completely block the program executables in your firewall"?
Just saying, it leaves me confused.
windows default firewall was never good enough to block stuff
try zone alarm free version. It will save you from virus as well.
Here's my two penneth worth guys...
It may or may not be your answer because I haven't tried installing version 9 yet because of everyone saying it isn't working.
BUT - Have you had a previous version of Camtasia installed before on your machine? If so, then you need to completely get rid of all remains of the older version, and by that I mean all the registry keys and everything else that relates to techsmith. (CCleaner or Revo uninstaller is not enough to do the job completely)
Once you've done that, then you can start a fresh install with version 9.
The way I would try it is I'd disconnect the internet before even installing camtasia. Then I would add all the host file entries, Install Camtasia, block ALL inbound calls from Camtasia via Windows firewall and then once all connections are blocked I would then switch my internet back on.
If that fails, then I'm afraid we'll need a very clever someone to come up with a brand new cr*ack
