Personally, I normally dont post into these types of infighting threads because I feel the BH community, especially here at BBHF, has much better activity to do with their time. Sadly, for the most part, my perception is that most of the support for the 'no mirrors please' has come from members that have not been on these forums long enough to properly absorb the culture of the community that they say they are supporting

You're not right. Most mirrors are infected or code changed, or something is added like sending anon emails, spamming etc.. Rule should be that authors need to use multi mirrors, not others.. Also if you download something and there's 10MB of junk .txt files with someones domain in it that's mostly because of leechers, and those mirror makers.

So, no, you're not right. Who cares about some rep?

Do not blame the mirrors if you do not know which link to click and which not to. I've made several mirrors, nokia has made uncountable ones... nobody has complained. Mind providing some examples of the so-called infected mirrors?

I too am looking for those examples, bcz truthfully I cant think of more than twice that I have seen anything like that in all the time I have been on BBHF. You say 'most' are changed .. so please show examples so that this issue can be properly resolved ...

Respectfully, I dont see why reputation should be a factor in these discussions. Everyone is free to give, or not give, as per their own criteria. Speaking for myself I have had the immense pleasure of posting rep to uploaders for their time and effort and consideration: often to both op and those that make mirrors. Giving rep for mirrors doesnt mean that the op is cheated of rep (unless, of course, you fail to do so). Truthfully there are many times I have searched out other shares from an op in order to give more rep than the 5 I am limited to (when I was especially grateful for the contribution) for a specific share.
What I do find harmful, and very disrespectful, is when a member of the community whines that all the links are dead and the actual fact is that they did not look into each mirror of that thread. I have observed and commented on this in many threads: feel free to look at my posts and you will see what I have recorded. It is bad enough that some feel it is better to start a fresh thread for a product they want to share without doing a proper search and adding a mirror to an existing thread.

My perception is that there is no decline in quality shares, and am happy to say that it appears there are far fewer shares of low quality materials as more and more members are taking a higher road of making decisions based on quality, and save us all some bandwidth and time. Also, again based on my own logic, the mirror sites are supporting those hosters that are causing havoc with downloads so many of us are moving to supporting the t0rr3nt5 organized by our more far sighted members of the community (such as Aloha and NonConformer, and others).

In another post you mentioned the good that nokia guy was doing. I specifically requested for my CPV Lab "leak" post to NOT BE MIRRORED. Massive XXL type at the top of the page. I also explained why. To prevent leaking of it. Guess who made Post #2 and since his site is crawled by google the files are out there now and I have lost all credibility with the guy who gave me those files in the first place. That thaosthanter did not even leak it but nokia inadvertently did.

Thousands of members on this community and you think that 100% of those human beings are not going to mirror when they see something useful? {{NO DISRESPECT TO ANYONE READING THIS!! }} lol ... what happens when you are told to not think about pink elephants? What % of the time do you think 'pink elephants !?' ?? Its like asking that people dont continuously 'bump' a thread ... lol .. I have seen the same username bump the same thread multiple times in a single day.

SO ... what happens now? HERE is a scenario I think no one has addressed ... the links provided by a 'DO NOT MIRROR' op eventually die out, there are no mirrors on the thread .. and .... lets say he posts again because there are multiple requests .. I would say that is a mirror since it is not the original.... what does that make him ... what does it make him if he doesnt post after requests for a mirror ??

ALL shares should be reported if they are infected. I reported a scammer who uploaded infected MyMail plugin and this was the OP not a mirror maker. He and others like to append "Always Updated" to the thread title and everyone should be leary of these crooks who infect servers with traffic-stealing code and other malware. I think it's best to buy your own themes and plugins and other scripts. Even images are infected.

How about this. End all this crap.
Make a mirror team, who will manage the creation of mirrors
They upload to hosts which are friendly to be used, without adding their own crap to the files; while respecting those users who don't want their files mirrored. However if that user dissapears then they can reupload for sure

IMHO,

This doesnt solve the issue of the op still being on BBHF and not supplying replacement links when the originals die out.

There are just far too many requests from users for new mirrors when in fact there are still working links, which will eventually cause all kinds of issue. FWIW, unless there were about 100 people on the mirror team, or a d*** good bot doing the work, the demand for mirrors would be overwhelming and lots of users would leave because the downloads are not available.

If there was a two strike rule about using non approved hosts/premium hosts or adding promotional materials etc, then at least users that are disrupting the community via bad mirrors would soon be banned.
