RE: What about Malaysia ??
A friend of mine has been trying to help her guy get back home to the US from there for years.

He is a professional and went there for a short-term job.

As soon as it was done they taxed away all his earnings and fined him thousand$ for being out of work.

He has been paying to try to escape for years, borrowing more and more $$$ to pay their BS 'fines'.

He is a white, christian guy, of course.

One time he missed one of their BS 'deadlines' by a day and the only reason they didn't cane him was 'cuz he fainted dead away in court when they told him he was about to get beaten within an inch of death.

Definitely NOT a place I would even remotely consider visiting as a non-muslim white guy - just my opinion though.

RE: What about Malaysia ??
Malaysia is a really nice country but has a few quirks due to it's muslim majority. Living in Thailand,, we used to go there regularly as the people there are very nice and pretty laid back. They are very easy people to get on with. The country is nice, people are, on a whole, very nice and the food is excellent and very diverse, being mainly Chinese food and Indian, as well as their own national dishes of course.

If I were to want to go live there, I wouldn't pay too much attention to the details given below by Smithnowt, there's something strange about all that he writes about his friend there as, if the guy wants to leave, he can leave there without needing any special permission to leave or, if he were scared to leave via the main airport, there are many land border points that he could go through.

All in all, I would say that, if you wouldn't mind living in a muslim controlled country, there could be a whole lot of countries worse for you to go to and spend some time.

RE: What about Malaysia ??
I had been to Malaysia several times as a tourist and I can say that it is a foreigner-friendly country. If you like Malay, Singaporean, Chinese, or Indian food, living in Malaysia is a very satisfying experience. Even the hawker-style food markets follow food hygiene and safety standards.

There are two recommended options for living in Malaysia

1. Retiring in Malaysia - Malaysia is a popular destination for retiring foreigners because of its safety and low cost of living. In fact, Malaysia actively promotes its retirement visas in many affluent countries. Many Japanese prefer to retire in Malaysia because unlike other similar destinations like the Philippines, foreigners are not attacked or killed here for the money. For more info, you can check this article

2. Living as an entrepreneur - If you want to live in Malaysia and do not want to pay any taxes, register an e-commerce company in Malaysia and get the proper visa for entrepreneurs. If your income is coming from sales outside of Malaysia, you are exempted from paying taxes.

You can always visit a nearby country like Singapore if there is any limit on continuous stay in your visa category.

RE: What about Malaysia ??
I'm from Malaysia and I'm a Chinese. We are a multi-racial country and everyone live together in harmony. I don't feel any restriction due to majority are Muslim, in fact, I felt Malays (100% are Muslim) are all very lovely and nice people.

You should come here and we have very nice food too.

Question RE: What about Malaysia ??
Strange, eh ?? OK.

I can only say that I've been getting updates about that man's ongoing situation for a long while - and both times that he tried to get on a plane to come home he was detained and told he had to pay up before he could leave.

It seems doubtful to me that he'd be any sort of actual criminal 'cuz he's very charitable and likes to support homes with orphaned children and such - and goes to church alot.

So...can I personally vouch for his story ??
Absolutely not because I've never been there and will not be going either.

But I do wish him well in his quest to get home.
