When my Thai wife and I settle down in Thailand, it would just be trip across the border. If the Malaysian people are as welcoming and friendly as Thais, then it will be lovely experience. Just goes to show, one man's supposed difficulty cannot be believed as a typical experience. |

RE: What about Malaysia ??
I was wondering too at first. But I finally figured @doraemonfan was referring to the guy in @smithnowt's story.
Sounds plausible to me. @smithnowt's lady friend is trying to help this guy to get out of Malaysia for ages. And if the "help" includes sending money to this guy... (04-03-2022 04:56 PM)berlinerin Wrote:(04-03-2022 02:32 PM)doraemonfan Wrote: He sounds like a scammer, be careful... |

RE: What about Malaysia ??
Hi,
In actual fact, the Malaysians are a lot friendlier than the Thai people. Here in Thailand, although still referred to as "the land of smiles" there aren't a lot of smiles seen. I've been living here now for the past 25 years and seen a huge change over the years, hardly anything positive though. Money is number 1 here and what with the problems of inflation and now the covid-19 lock downs for the past 2 years, its got a lot worse for safety, a lot more expensive to live within the country and the people are a lot more insular rather than accepting of others, apart from the more touristic places which are starting to open again which have the usual fake smiles which people see only on holidays. Don't get me wrong, there are far worse places to live but don't expect too much of a place that you maybe haven't visited for a while. Go visit Malaysia and enjoy the hospitality there and the great food, then come back to reality if your coming back to living in Thailand. RE: What about Malaysia ??
And this is why after some initial research through books and online resources everyone should just jump on a plane and go explore/travel to exotic places themselves to find out exactly what a place is all about (good or bad).
As the old expression goes, opinions are like a@@holes, everyone has one! Now that the Covid BS is over and countries are opening up for travel again, it's still a good time to get cheap airfares and hotel/AirBNB, etc. accommodations around the world and experience the local culture for yourself....again for either good and/or bad! Then YOU will have your own opinion as to what countries are friendliest, smile the most, welcome foreigners, etc. or are bigoted, view foreigners with contempt, or are racist to outsiders, etc. Also, did you ever think that maybe it's just YOU that instigates the good/bad experiences in other cultures? Do YOU smile at others for no reason? Do you complain about service/food/language skills/promptness/attitudes, etc. in different places (and your own country?) Do YOU try to speak in the local language, eat local foods, take on the local attitudes and cultural norms (ie laid back thinking about time, etc.)? What I'm trying to say is, maybe it's time you look into the mirror and see if the "problem" with everyone else is perhaps........a YOU problem? Just saying, when everyone else is an A-hole, the problem might not be with them? Just some food for thought, I'm not saying places don't have their charms, and on the flip side their problems, but maybe too many people that travel expect the same service and amenities in places that do not have the same culture or first world infrastructure to handle what you are used to in their home country. Just my two cents! (04-04-2022 09:57 PM)tinamou99 Wrote: Hi, ![]() |

RE: What about Malaysia ??
There are a lot of options in the south east asia region. It depends on your business, lifestyle and budget. If you have the money and enjoy the city life there's singapore and perhaps even kuala lumpur and bangkok. If you enjoy a more laid back environment, you can consider the northern parts of thailand and also vietnam. If you enjoy beaches and islands then can consider a few spots from indonesia, thailand and malaysia. The best is to visit all the places for a few days, maybe weeks, to get a feel the places and the people.

RE: What about Malaysia ??
The woman is someone I've been friends with for over a decade and has always seemed like she was being straight with me - she is simply a friend who lives in the next state, hours away.
She visits us here once in a great while and we chat now and then, but... Could she be FOS ?? Sure, why not. I can only say that when he 1st went over there she was thrilled when he was making good money and paid some of her bills when she was broke. Since then she strongly insists that she is smarter than to send her money to some foreign country and says that he won't take it anyhow. So I don't think so - but I also cannot claim to know any of this 100% for sure. I myself am NOT a traveler - plenty enough to keep me occupied right here in my state and local area...never been to Malaysia and will never go there either. Only reason I replied here was to tell others what I have been told - but like I said - I do not swear to its accuracy 'cuz I have not seen any of it myself, at 1st hand.
I totally despise board spammers and spambots !!!
