My Udemy account got banned for using free coupons
I haven't heard about shit like this anywhere around here so I'm just informing everybody of my story and giving y'all a warning.
I had somewhere around 700 courses which I had been collecting somewhere since 2014-2015, most of which are currently chargeable but I enrolled on them for free. And one day I just couldn't login into my account. I wrote to Udemy support informing them about the situation and here's their reply: Hi ****, Thank you for your patience while we reviewed your account status. Your account has been terminated, however, because we have noted certain activity that is in violation of our policies and terms of service. Though this decision is final, we're open to reconsidering it at our own discretion. Best, Eliana To that I replied: Hello Eliana, please inform me what policies I have violated, because I can't even imagine what are we talking about here... Her reply: Hello ****, Thanks for getting back to me. Our system remarked potentially unauthorized behavior on your account like using Free coupons to enroll in our courses. Thank you for your patience while we reviewed. Best, Eliana I tried asking for clarification of how is it even possible that coupons are "unauthorized behavior" if they are created by course creators and I didn't break or hack anything, and there were no replies to that, and it's been 4-5 days. So what are your thoughts on this? Something tells me there are peeps around here who have more freeloader courses than I had. :) |

I enrolled something like 100+ Courses so far. Only bought 15 or something courses for money. Other with Udemy Credits and Coupons |

A friend of mine has a Udemy account with more than 6,000 courses from 2015 and I asked him about this. He said there is no problem with his account. I have 500 courses with FREE coupon. No problem with mine too. I think the problem is not free coupons because coupons are provided by the author. Maybe there was something suspicious about your account. Please email them again and let us know where the problem really is. Thanks!

The same thing happened to my account around 21-Feb-2018, WITHOUT any mention of free courses. I asked them about the violations and they replied with this: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Thanks for your response. Please note that we've been tracking some suspicious activity, and we want to make sure that your account is safe. Can you please create a new account with the email address <email address>? Once the account is created, please reply back this email and we will transfer all your courses to the new account. Thanks in advance for all your help and I will be waiting for a response. Best wishes, <name> - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I continued to asked 3 times about the suspicious activity and they continued to mention they were tracking suspicious activity and wanted to make sure my account was safe. The good news is that on 24-Feb-2018, they restored my account with all courses as if nothing happened. I only have free courses in that account. |
