No you don't need to update the child theme. It hasn't changed for more than a year (only the Avada logo has a recent time-stamp on it).

and the "less" folder?

Also, are these files included in the original Avada.zip file?

I've got no idea. Like I've said, the theme is completely unaltered. I download the archive from Themeforest and extract it, remove the PSD files (I've uploaded those to the OP separately to keep the theme file size down) then re-archive it as a .rar file with the password. Other than the PSD folder, nothing is changed. The Avada.zip file (the theme archive within the archive) isn't touched at all and is as it is from Themeforest.

I assume the files are used for something, but I'm not a developer so I've no idea what they actually do (though you can read about the .gitignore file here - it's not an important file). :)
