RE: [GET] A WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE: GEORGE W. HAYLINGS
Real gems from BI era! That was the era, Thanks for reminding me of those old Mags which had classified section which I used to skim every word by word in order to see what it's all bout! Really nice to hear the experiences of fellow BBHF'er. Thanks @ Layna, @nojob,@Theo1, @12days, @webgonda and other fellow BBHF'er for adding your wisdoms and nostalgia of BI era...

RE: [GET] A WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE: GEORGE W. HAYLINGS

@12days: This my first time hearing of that product. I'm sorry that you got scammed. No matter what, there will always be people willing to "muddy the waters," so-to-speak, by running a ruse when other marketers are delivering value to their customers. It's good to know that the two con-artists behind that bait-and-switch got sued. It smacks of an illegal pyramid scheme, which is probably what brought the hammer of the law down on them.

@Theo1: Thanks for adding your experience and memories.

I very much remember that DAX ad. In fact, I wanted that product but don't remember now why I didn't spring for it.

And you KNOW it's an old-school direct marketing add because he's promising you'll make the easiest $100K! Today's marketers have raised the ante to $6- and $7-figure paydays!

And even back then, full page display ads used the psychology of an easy fix that most people will readily respond to.

Check out the headline:

The Fastest, Easiest $100,000
You'll Ever Make in Your Life
Your's Now!

- Without a penny of investment
- Without leaving home
- Within 90 days (just 3 months!)
- "Working" about 1 hour a day (evenings)

Notice the underscored word NOW in the headline --- this says the money is closer than you think!

Notice the quotation marks flanking the word Working in the last bullet point ... most people HATE work but LOVE riches.

In their heart-of-hearts, they know that it takes work --- HARD WORK --- to get and stay rich but, hey, there it is in black-and-white. So, seeing it in print somehow temporarily suspends their rational thinking just long enough for them to whip out that bank card or dash off a check in the postal mail.

Marketing is all about connecting with your prospect's emotional response.

Marketing is all about messaging --- saying what your prospect wants to hear.

Marketing is all about promising to solve your prospect's most pressing problems ... or giving them the good life THEY feel they deserve.

But in the end...

Marketing is all about getting that moolah!

I just did a quick search to see if there's any DAX stuff floating around the ether sphere. Amazon has a few of his titles but none of them is currently available. They're off the market completely.

The marketers of this era who haven't already passed away have slowly faded into obscurity but these old-school marketing methods will live on and on because they were so effective back-in-the-day... and still are today.

Evergreen.

Thanks
for reading!

Your right Layna. These old ad guys really knew how to get you to open your wallet!

Problem now is that trying to locate some of these old ads is about as much fun as looking for Easter Eggs in software.

A little searching in my back closet came up with a couple back before the internet was like we know it today.

BACK WHEN MAIL ORDER WAS KING!

What really needs to be pointed out with this ad is that he is being classic. He get's you all excited about what he has to offer (BLIND AD), does not ask for any money upfront (FREE, FREE, FREE) and he get's you on his mailing list and all with just this one ad!

And now, whoever could forget:

YOU AIN'T THE AVERAGE JOE, JOE!
Hey, you can make $50,000 per month with this one. Wonder what would happen if I tried mailing them?

Hope others can find some more of these gems.

Hey 12days-

Actually, the ads aren't too difficult to come by- Here are over 1000 pages of all the ads we knew and loved! One is the compilation that starts with the multi-million dollar infamous "Laura Johnson ad," and the other resource is the classic Dan Kennedy Ultimate Information Entrepreneur compilation- I combined them here in a zip-

Enjoy!

@12 days: Thanks for sharing those ads. Very interesting.

@Theo1: Thank you for posting that link with olden ads. I'll go have a look. I'm not familiar with the Laura Johnson ad, at the mention of it, at least. I need to take a closer look to see if it brings up any memories.

Thanks, guys, for your assistance with this thread.

For marketers, at least, those were the days!

UPDATE
=====

Wow! I just came back to add TRIPLE MAX REPS to Theo1 for his share.

That Dan Kennedy share is a 584-page tome filled with his direct marketing wisdom --- sample ads, articles, checklists, excerpts from special reports and newsletters, and creative advice on the best ways to create and market all kinds of information products --- from audio cassettes, videos, newsletters, and more. There is very valuable information in this document that any information marketer will find useful.

The Use Me And Get Rich ad --- AKA "The Laura Johnson" ad - is one I quickly remembered as soon as I saw it. The woman in a casually seductive pose, leaning against a very expensive car and holding up a glass (presumably) of champagne, had all of the ingredients necessary to work up a frenzy --- in any red-blooded heterosexual male. I'm sure this ad helped to open a lot of wallets for this marketer, especially if his target audience was predominantly male and in a time when such a suggestive headline coupled with the "suggestively available" female was not considered to be a tad sexist. I can see how this ad was a knock-it-out-of-the-ballpark success.

So, you get a 426-page compendium of ads and more to benefit anyone trying to enhance their marketing methods. Grab this share while you can!

Thank you, Theo1.

Thanks

Hey Layna!

Thanks for all the reps! Appreciate it as always-

AND, just to make the point further, it's funny that the "Laura Johnson" ad came up in conversation, as our BBHF friend rhqman actually put up the Laura Johnson "course," if you can all it that lol-

And oh yeah, guess what the method is? Selling info through Mail Order-

Like you said previously, all of this stuff is just EVERGREEN-

Here is the link to the "course," which is really, wait for it- A simple "20 page report"-

http://bestblackhatforum.com/Thread-GET-...To-Success

On another note, not sure if everyone's aware of this, but if you REALLY want to dig into the mindset and application of how to incorporate these ads and the general "opportunity approach" to your business, then I HIGHLY recommend you run out immediately (so to speak) over to Gordon's links for Dan Kennedy's "Opportunity Marketing Concepts" course- It is and has been one of my favorite courses from Dan since it came out in 2011-

It is a bit long, covers two days, but is jam packed with GOLD- And it comes in DVD, audio, and PDF versions depending on your learning modality-

OK that should be enough to keep us busy for a day or two!

Enjoy!

Thank you for posting that information, Theo1.

Thank you, too, for linking me to rhqman's Laura Johnson "course." I just grabbed it from his updated mediafire link (post #3). Big thanks and max reps go to rhqman for the share!

And as for my reps to you, you earned every single one --- 10 fold --- with what you shared with us in post #14.

Now I'm going over to GordonShumway's Dan Kennedy thread now. I believe I downloaded Opportunity Marketing Concepts from that thread but just in case I didn't... 47happy

Thanks
