If you're like me, you words and unless you've been living under a rock recently, you know that Wordle is all the rage!

But don't confuse this Wordle with the other one, where you type in a series of words to create a visual representation of a "word cloud," like this...

In this Wordle, you guess 5-letter words and input them in a crossword puzzle-like interface online. You do this on six tries and use the colors of the tiles as hints that tell you how close you are to the solution.

Wordle was invented by Josh Wardle, (yep, a play-on-words --- Wordle/Wardle... get it?!) a software engineer in Brooklyn who created the game to play with his partner, Palak Shah, who loves word games. It soon became an obsession when he introduced the game to his family via their WhatsApp group. He later released it to the rest of the world in October 2021 and Wordle exploded and has enjoyed a meteoric rise ever since.

So, here's what you need to know about Wordle, in a nutshell:

- You get six tries to solve the puzzle by guessing the 5-letter word of the day
- There is only one word of the day for everyone playing all over the world
- You guess by inputting any valid 5-letter word in the first row then hit the "ENTER" button to submit it
- If you want to delete letters of a word before submitting it, use the "X" key
- Wordle will give you hints along the way as to how you're doing by coloring each letter tile as your word guess is displayed. Each letter tile turns green, gold or gray, which means:
* Green: The letter you input is in the word and in the correct spot or position in the word-of-the-day
* Gold: The letter you input is in the word but in the wrong spot or position in the word-of-the-day
* Gray: The letter you input is NOT in the word in any spot or position in the word-of-the-day
- Continue guessing, using these hints, until you solve the Wordle or run out of guesses
- You get to play one puzzle each day (24 hours) and if you fail to solve within six tries, you cannot play again
- You can search online for answers to the puzzle

On a forum devoted to crypto, marketing and other money-focused niches, why on earth would I post a "How to Play Wordle" share?

Well, even black-hatters need to "time-out" every once in a while, chill and have fun.

So I'm sharing a few resources to help anyone wanting to learn to grasp Wordle. Whether you're a beginner and need to understand the basics of the game or already know how to play but want to improve your skills, this share's for you.

Reportedly, Wardle sold Wordle to the New York Times for a low seven figure sum. Let's hope that it continues with its no-frills user interface and that the New York Times doesn't muddle it up with flashing ads and other distractions.

If you have not played Wordle for today, February 24, 2022 then don't look past this warning because I'm posting the results of MY very first attempt to solve the day's puzzle.

LAYNA'S WORDLE - THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2022

It took me about 10 minutes of guessing to solve today's Wordle. I was surprised that it wasn't as big of a challenge as I thought it would be but that's only because I heeded the hints the color tiles returned as I worked through each guess. So if the puzzle showed the letter "E" in green, I knew that "E" was in the correct position in the solution. Letters in gold informed me that these letters were in the solution but I needed to move them to another spot in the word; whereas gray tiles told me to avoid using these letters going forward because they were NOT in the word answer.

Funny, I thought of the word "bloke" but almost DIDN'T type it in because it's not one we use a lot here in America (it's basically British). But I did end up submitting it and managed to solve the puzzle in 5 tries!

So, try your hand at tomorrow's Wordle.

Don't let the empty squares keep you from getting started. Just think of any 5-letter word and after you submit your guess, let the colors of each tile guide you to the solution.

So you start the game with a completely random 5-letter word guess but as you make each subsequent guess, you are being guided by the color-coded clues/hints from each previous attempt.

Wordle is unique and somewhat challenging but it's a whole lot of fun!

Apparently, it's written in Javascript, which means that the whole code for the game is sent to your browser when you play it, including the answers up till 2027.

@sjc999: I don't understand. Are you saying that one can look into some code, such as in the View Page area, and find the solution before even doing the puzzle? If that's true, then it defeats the purpose of the challenge. I wonder if the NYTimes knew this because if not, they just orchestrated the biggest waste of a 7-figure payday in the history of mankind.

I can't speak for anyone else but I used my brain cells to solve the puzzle.

@webgoonda: It seems that way to me! To pay that much money for an application that anyone can find the solution to by peeking under the hood for. It defeats the purpose. I'm not tech-minded so sjc999's post opened my eyes.

I think I'll go develop an online game app and see if NYTimes will make me a 7-figure offer that I can't refuse. Talk about laughing all the way to the bank! Wardle must have yodeled as that huge sum was transferred to his bank account!

I still plan to play the game, despite that "bucket of water" realization that splashed out the fire of enthusiasm I had for this little word game. I just won't peek behind the curtain (unless I fail to solve it in six tries) because I enjoy taking on a challenge.
