I'm just starting my freelance business, and was thinking that I need to give away a few websites on Craigslist in order to build a portfolio and get some testimonials. I figured I could get them to sign up to Siteground for hosting and bag $50 for the affiliate commission...plus any upsells. But your method seems so much better!
My method IS better. Much better!
(08-01-2018 05:21 PM)biggee Wrote: [ -> ]My question though is about pricing... In a world where Wix and Weebly and a bunch of others are giving away stunning website designs for free, with only $99/YEAR hosting fees, can you STILL charge $100/month to host a "free" site? Do you get a lot of objections at that stage? Has it changed over time?
This question comes up a lot, and I'm always confused by it. One of the fundamental ingredients in sales is that you MUST demonstrate value. That's your job. I can't make your offer seem valuable if you don't believe it is. What I can tell you is that your question is a false one.
Substitute any product/service in place of website and change your...
"In a world where Wix and Weebly are giving away website designs for free, with only $99/YEAR hosting fees, can you STILL charge $100/month?
TO
"In a world where Hyundai is charging $20,000 for a new car, can you STILL charge $150,000 for yours?"
OR
"In a world where McDonald's is charging 99 cents for a cheeseburger, will people STILL pay $6 for a burger?"
OR
"In a world where quality office suites like LibreOffice.org and graphic design tools such as GIMP can be had for free, can you STILL charge hundreds of dollars for Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop?"
You see, to be entirely honest with you, that responsibility falls on you. It is up to you to separate yourself from the Weeblies and Wixes of the world. It is up to you to educate your clients on why paying for a premium service is a better use of their money than settling for inferior services that cost less.
I would say that this is not something this course teaches, but the fact is I spend a lot of time covering this type of material in it anyway. Still, the fact is that is not what the BSO was designed to teach. At the end of the day, I teach a valuable method; but the fact of the matter is, I won't be selling/closing your deals for you. Ultimately, it will be up to you to demonstrate value to the prospective customer.

Are you focusing more on these areas? (This is my convoluted way of saying that I had been planning to charge $25/month for hosting, get more clients in the door, and then have more services to sell them.)
This question is answered within the method that I share for FREE in its thread. Again, you can find that link here:

Link aside,
SPOILER ALERT: Yes, you should be offering upsells.
