Thank you and welcome, Layna Happydance
Hi Layna

Been using that site for a while, but just thought I would drop you a note about a question you had.

You said in the OP the files come in: "ABBYY GZ What ever that is".

This is a file from ABBY FineReader. It is a program that will rip a PDF file and convert into Word (and other formats) and also goes the other direction, IE Word in to PDF.

The GZ is for a Gun Zip file. This is often used on servers and is very similar to a regular Zip file, just a bit older and the compression is not as good as the latest versions of Zip.

Anyway, just thought I would toss that out for you.

As always, much appreciating you sharing your finds with the community.

Cheers,

G.S.

I already knew about the site and use it regularly for other things but not PDFs! This is such a great amazing share and reps added. Thanks
@GordonShumway]: I appreciate your post, friend. I'd gotten so busy in the last few days with helping a few people and downloading from a few sites I'd found that I forgot to thank you for your explanation. Thank you!

Thank you Layna.
I used it for ages, it also has the waybackmachine function to see wwebsites that are not hosted anymore online
I only just saw this thread from 2018.
But yes, I've been using Archive org for many years. It's one of my go-to sites.
I used to love libraries in my younger years, before they half-filled them with videos, dvds, cds and now computers -- to the detriment of the books.
But Archive org is like the best library you can find, and I love the fact that the pages are all scanned -- I read a LOT of pdf/epub/mobi formatted books, but still prefer the feel of a book in my hands and a scanned book is at least halfway there.

I didn't see this mentioned in the opening post, but if you download and install Adobe Editions (free), they have an arrangement with Archive org, so if you 'borrow' a book from Archive org, you can download and read it with Adobe Editions. Their arrangement is that Adobe stops access to the file after the borrow period expires.

Or you can just read the book in your browser -- use F11 to use Chrome full sized without the tabs and bookmarks at the top, then click the square box in the bottom right of the screen, and you can make the book as big as your screen: that's my preference, anyway.

Also, if you make the book full size as I describe, use screenshots to capture the pages you want to refer to later!

My other book favorites are bookbub.com, bookzio.com and free99books.com -- all of them list free books every day you can download and keep. If you check them daily like I do you can get bestsellers and all kinds of great stuff.
Thanks for this great info, layna61524
