Hi brudders and sistas

My harddrive is filling up of all these HD videos
What ways, software do you use to reduce the HD file sizes to something smaller and more manageable without sacrificing quality?

I'm using a Mac but can get access to a PC

Thanks
My bad for forgetting that I've already asked:

Summary answer:
use Handbrake:
handbrake.fr

Use compression mp4 or h.264
video bitrate > 512 kb/s
audio bitrate > 64 kb/s (voice)
Get a cracked version of Wondershare video converter, select 'high quality' it gets rid of all the bloat in the process.
Handbrake is free and best
Handbrake is cool. I use it as well
Another vote for handbrake it works best for mac users.
For video size, encoder and Bit Rate of the video are turned out to be the most important factors. To reduce video size, you can downscale video resolution, reduce bit rates or transcode video with H.265 encoder.
I'm pretty sure it's a piece of cake for some free video converters. Handbrake is not for me, I recommend freemake and format factory.
For converting files I use Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate. But I only use it when I am going to use the file for something. I don't convert it to just save space as it usually will effect the quality. I just move all large files I will not be using to an external drive.

Rep's are appreciated!
