Very true. I think direct linking also causes problems pertaining to how fast those direct links will be taken down by owners. It makes sense to post everything on file sharing sites.

hi I agree it is not on to do that but most bbh members post to download sites they have uploaded to
Just Make a rule that all downloads have to use download sites. and not link directly to the authors site.
Just a thought...
...one 'passive' way to achieve this by those who have said 'agree' in this thread or who agree we should avoid Direct Linking is:
1. Mirror as quickly as possible
2. Tell members to use your mirror instead of the direct link (and explain why)*
3. Give more rep to the mirror makers instead of the direct linkers
This last point might seem a bit contentious but it would have an IMMEDIATE effect I think.
* One of the ways you can recommend members to download from mirrors is to point out that:
"Use this mirror, guys, to avoid flagging the owner that we've shared this here!"
i totally support this idea. let's try not to be total jerk and cause (much) damage to product owners
