What OS do you use?
I have been using Ubuntu lately since Windows10 was pissing me off with it's security settings. I ran a patch to disable them but after each re-boot they were enabled. So I am currently trying out Linux Ubuntu and so far so good. What do you recommend for a simi stress free OS?

Thanks

RE: What OS do you use?
I'm currently with OpenSuse, having problems with Virtualbox images tough, apart from that no major issues besides having to free up space manually on / partition, as logrotate fails to clean up temp folders and purge-kernel command sometimes lets me down. Only use Win if I need to for work reasons or particular softwares that only run in Win. Linux Mint is quite good as well(short life distros tough), but some issues with my graphics drivers are keeping me Suse bound. Ubuntu should be as stress free as Linux permits, why are you considering changing it?

RE: What OS do you use?
Linux Ubuntu. Been my main OS for 5 years since Windows blew up once too often. I have a desktop, 2 laptops and a vps server running it. Some like Mint but there is no server edition and I like the 'commercial' aspect of 6 monthly updates and long term support for the server and it's one system to learn.

I use VirtualBox for when I need Photoshop. The laptops run 8gb memory and manage perfectly (Better than dual boot as I can nip into Vbox and edit a logo then carry on working - just like opening a window).

I have another Windows 7 laptop for bots. 11" screen, so too small for real work.

Mac is too restrictive - Apple software or go home and that's hard to find anywhere other than a retail store. Yes they have Parallels, but the price / performance isn't there either. Like going to the hardware store in a 2 seater Porsche.

Grumble,
Thanks for the feedback. I like Linux and should of switched sooner. Ubuntu Gui is even better than I thought it would be.

RE: What OS do you use?
neant,
I was liking windows 10 and then I noticed that when I disabled the report back to Microsoft Security features they would still report even being disabled. Also the built in AV and Firewall sucked and the system slowed down when I added a different AV and Malwarebytes. So it was time for a change Windows 10 is great but I like that there's an alternative. [/u]

RE: What OS do you use?
Ubuntu's moved a lot in 5 years - almost everything installs without hassle or command line ninja skills. No viruses in years and any inside files just don't run, so that's a plus as well. Being in IT for 40 years I'll say it's the best all round OS that lets you do things you want and 'Just works'.

Multi workspace is great - Hide a working screen and just turn the 'cube' to another window.

Enjoy!
