What Are Amazon.com 'Advertsiing Fees'? And why am I paying them?
Hello,

I have an Amazon affiliate site in the book market. I haven't bothered looking at my Amazon account for many months, because the payments are so low it takes a while to get a decent balance.

I just looked at my account:

Date ---- Transaction ---- Amount ---- Balance
Dec 01 2016 ---- 10/2016 ---- Advertising Fees ---- $24.01 ---- $24.01
Jan 01 2017 ---- 11/2016 ---- Advertising Fees ---- $115.64 ---- $139.65
Feb 01 2017 ---- 12/2016 ---- Advertising Fees ---- $226.68 ---- $366.33
Mar 01 2017 ---- 01/2017 ---- Advertising Fees ---- $108.08 ---- $474.41
Apr 01 2017 ---- 02/2017 ---- Advertising Fees ---- $134.83 ---- $609.24
May 01 2017 ---- 03/2017 ---- Advertising Fees ---- $162.15 ---- $771.39
May 16 2017 ---- 03/2017 ---- Free eBook Adjustment ----
-$162.15 ---- $609.24
Jun 01 2017 ---- 04/2017 ---- Advertising Fees ---- $184.66 ---- $793.90

It looks like I am paying a massive amount of Advertising Fees - but why? What are they paying for?

I just have Amazon affiliate links on my site. I don't use Amazon for anything else. The books I promote are mostly free or on deals so the income from a download is either nothing or very small, or else someone buys something else on Amazon and I get the commission - but you can see it isn't a very profitable market! Even less profitable when I'm paying such high advertising fees... for what?

Thanks.

Thanks guys - but what is the balance then?

I added Amazon to this site last Oct/Nov. If I go into my Amazon reports, and set it for 90 day periods this is what I get:

Amazon.com
Oct 2 - Dec 30
Total Earnings Summary = $363.77

Dec 31 - Mar 30
Total Earnings Summary = $405.33

Mar 31 - June 11
Total Earnings Summary = $484.37

Which makes a grand total of $1,253.47
Whichever way I look at the accounting, I don't see anything close to that. What am I doing wrong here?

You're doing well, man! It looks like they owe you $793.90.

You've been getting sales every month for something but they deducted $162.15 on May 16 for what looks like a free book promotion of some sort.

Log into your account and put in your bank details and they will pay you!
They wait 60 days for returns then pay you so you should get something at the end of the month - maybe about $440!

In the dashboard home page on the right it says summary for the month. click on view full report at the bottom of that box. On the next page it will show you orders and earnings from your links for any period you set.

Well done!

Thanks - but can you explain what all the reductions are about?

Like I said in my post, my quarterly summaries add up to over $1000+ but you, and this data, only totals it to $700+ where did the other $500+ go?

And what are 'advertising fees'? I don't advertise!
I also didn't promote a book so I don't know what that fee you mention is all about.

Is Amazon known for making mistakes?
