The 2012 part of this is NOT common knowledge:
Quote:VirusTotal, acquired by Google in 2012, operates a malware scanning service that can be used manually or via an API, to analyze suspicious files. So why care ?? 1 word says it all=> PRIVACY If you are at all concerned with the power which the big G exerts via ALL uses of it - then you may not wish for that spying monster to know EXACTLY what you are doing and/or sharing via VT and knowing your IP address along with whatever other info they can easily collect covertly (especially if ANY account at all is logged in at that device...). Personally, I totally disdain any form of having G looking into my life (or up my a$$) just because it is simply too vastly powerful and sneaky. Moving forward I am now only using Jotti (https://jotti.org/) and maybe some other folks here are also wanting to get as de-googled as possible and find that as a good alternative. HTH. . .
I totally despise board spammers and spambots !!!

RE: [WARNING] What you may not know about online virus scanning...
Thanks for the info. I stopped using google for anything, as every time I would log on, google would make me do a captcha, as they claimed there was unusual traffic coming from my network. This was happening even after I had just logged on! BTW I am connected via an ethernet cable, so I don't even have a Wi-Fi signal that someone can steal. Up yours google!

Thanks smithnowt!
I agree with everyone that the more we can avoid Google the better everyone is! I didn't know this information . . . I'm changing today. ![]() |
