REQ: How Much Should I Charge for a Website? What do you Think?
Hi there,

I have been trying to find a solution to ear extra money, I had the idea to create WordPress sites for people.

I do not have the idea on how much should I charge them. Sometimes I sell myself to low, what I meant is:

I thought about to charge up front $200 to create the site, then $125 per month, to maintain it.

It would site for companies like : cleaning, small fast food places, car wash, etc.

Business that do not have a lot rotation ( require a lot work to be changing menus, prices, etc).

What do you think? Please help me with your ideas?

Do you think $200 is low, a lot, to find a domain, create the site and launch it ?

$125 is good to provide backup, to check the sites from time to time, to add some new features?

One more thing......How should I charge a new prospect? Every month? If so, how should I do it a way that I will not miss any payment?

Should I implement a PayPal System to receive every month? Should I get the checks by going to their business?

What I meant is, I want to offer a good service, for a good price without having to charge a lot money.

Please let me know your thoughts?

I really appreciate!

Thank you!

I charge around 1k for a website. If you want small quick burst of cash sell video. It's the easiest thing to sell to local businesses. Everyone loves video and they can see the product before hand. Then up sell them a website. $200 is way too low, not many customers will take you seriously either so you will be contacting more prospects than you would if you charged a respectable price. And once you find someone who will pay $200 they will be a pain in the ass client. Always charge what you think your time is worth. If you think your time is worth only $200 so will your customers and they will treat you as such.

Patrick, Thank you for you time...What do you mean sell a video? Create a video with their brand, with a template website similar to their business? Do you charge them for support? I mean, many people dont have no clue about creating/maintaining a web site? What do you think I should charge them monthy?

Sorry, I know it is a lot of questions but I am just trying to get my head straight, like I said, sometimes I sell myself to low, ....

Hi,
Such a general question and abstract answers will not help you much.
You need to research what is your competition offering and charging; what this local business will get per lead to guess what they are happy to pay; do they really need regular update; how competitive is this niche in your area and how much time you need to rise real traffic, etc.
Decide: will you choose certain business (for example dentists) and contact many of them or you choose smaller area and meet personally clients; Or are you targeting clients in other countries and your competition is outsourcing service people.
Based on this your websites could demand very different quality and amount of work, so prices will also vary.

Thank you Pacoe...

Here is the point.... Also, this is going to make a good thread to many of us who is struggling to make extra money, cash,....so on....

I work as IT field,...designing website is not my strongest field but I have created many WordPress website to myself, trying to make money with adsense without any success until now.

I m American by Naturalization and just to throw out there, I am proud to be in a such way, any way, there are a lot people from South America, who does not speak English very well or they speak English very well but they dont know how to market their business for growth.

I was thinking to reach those people who speak the mother language as I do and offer them my service.

Usually they have their own business, the main ones are cleaning, car wash, smal fast food places, catering and so on.

And of course, they need to reach more customers but they dont know how thats when I came in, offering the website, combining with facebook ads to drive traffic.

The point is, I dont want to be greedy and at the same time I dont want to sell myself to low.

I know what you mean, I really appreciate your reply.

the main question still remain.......What is a good price to build a very decent WordPress website and charge the client? and Also, what is a decent price to charge for support if they ask for a change in their website per week or if they dont ask for a change in their website in the next 6 months?

I do not want to rip people off at the same thing I dont want to be working a lot and not getting what I deserve.

I have been working in the IT field as IT Support Specialist for 8 years......and I truly believe if you pay for a service you need to get a best service. I put myself there to help others.

I just see the good potential to help others and make money with people who need a website to advertise their business, specially for those who dont speak English very well.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

This sounds like a good niche - websites for Spanish speaking population. You better start with businesses which you can visit personally to get some testimonials. Then you can do it mostly online.

Find 3 local companies offering websites, choose a random business and ask for quotation for a specific website for this business. See how many hours it will take you to do it yourself. Calculate your price per hour and make your price list based on this.
Offer discount and/or free bonus for testimonials.
