Good :-)

They also have changed "free preview" style. Now we can not chose a lecture if want to preview.

Udemy shooting itself in the foot . . .

Course quality will go down, pretty fast.

Better instructors won't even bother.

For example, why should I create a trading course when the most I can charge is $50?

Not even worth 15-minutes of my time.

RE: [IMPORTANT] Udemy New Terms
Eurotrader, Im not 100% aggreing with them, but we have to consider one clear fact. The VAST MAJORITY of teachers were NOT making, or barely, any sales at their big 100$+ prices. The MOST of their revenue came with 20$ and below ... and that is with a trading or another huge super course like the biggest they have in programming with Percival. ALL major instructors on Udemy were voluntarily signing up to those 10 to 20$ sales for a reason( and a BIG one, it being the only way they were making all that revenue). Udemy is just using their stats with a business sense. UNFORTUNATELY, the below 10$ courses that were only making BECAUSE of being at a price where a lot of people just wouldnve bothered glancing at it if it wasnt for that below 3$ tag. + talk about a nasty way to get rid of the majority of students in developing countries in one go !! Thats the fact thats piercing my heart the most. Its always like that, the people needing the most have access to the less... and more and more for certain crucial things like education... Lets open our own sub 20$ udemy clone !

RE: [IMPORTANT] Udemy New Terms
Well, most of instructors are NOT earning from their 100$ and higher courses because Udemy was making this CONSTANT 10$ promos... People must be stupid or new to the site to buy something which will be almost free in two weeks. And everybody want to learn but imagine reaction of somebody who bought course for 250$ and saw week later mail from Udemy (or even better - directly from her/his instructor) that courses are on sale for 10$ (including the particular one for which our student paid the full price).
I think the prices should stay but this ridiculous sales should end long time ago.

Fo those of you who are working in sales as me - just read these articles - they were pure revelation to me.
The most important question: is the price REALLY the only field on which you can compete? And Udemy is obviously stating this as the huge YES. What a pity.
[hr]
the perfect solution for these problems:
Country related prices (like on Google Play or Steam) - it's for benefit of everyone since me living in UK will have higher income then me living in India. And the reality is that where in some countries 50$ is more than fair price, then for some people even 2$ is like "OMG OMG HOW MUCH MONEY YOU'VE EARNED?!!!"
It's simple as that - that way will enforce higher prices for those who (in theory) can afford them and lower for those (again in theory) who can't.
The only problem will be gifts/bulk purchases - ie. me living in India and purchasing "gift courses" for entire world because they are so cheap in my country.

I'm curious what are your ideas/solutions :)

RE: [IMPORTANT] Udemy New Terms
I agree with comments above. I also think that part of the problem with Udemy courses has been a price vs. value issue. With instructors free to set any price they want, many courses only an hour long or less are priced above $100. Most people would think that's poor value for the money. I have no problem with courses that are in depth and hours long being priced higher, but it's become ridiculous with some of the pricing.
I suspect what will happen now will be instructors breaking their courses up into 'parts' and selling them at the upper price point. I think eliminating the lower price points will inevitably hurt them, especially in lower income markets.
I can foresee someone with programming skills setting up a site to compete with Udemy perhaps with a value guarantee model, where a customer pays on perhaps a 'rate per hour'...say $10 to $20 per course hour, so a 5 hour course would be a max of $100.
I think instructors should still be able to offer free or discounted courses at their discretion to promote their courses.

RE: [IMPORTANT] Udemy New Terms
Definitely, everything you guys say is right with my thoughts ! And ya, wow, those 10$ coming back all the time and for so long, just a burden after a while. They forced a lot of instructors also since it was get on this wagon or noone sees your course on our platform type of deal (they had two views, one with 10$ sales you could switch on and off, remember ?) Thanks for those articles Gordum. Guys , we could build a platform like this 100% free, with new p2p through browser tech with server backup. What you get as a course is in your pc as you go, and stays there, you have the control. WHAT crazy teacher will offer their quality courses for free ? The same ones at udemy who need to get traffic to their own schoolsite + the ones that believe education should be freely and reachable for EVERYONE who can get there and has the motivation to jump in for the better + whoever just loves sharing no matter the rest of the mumbojumbo hehe. What do you think ? what are your thoughts on that crazy but very feasible technically idea?
