Getting into VMs is quite easy via either Virtualbox or VMWare - and there are free courses teaching the basics for either.

So, if you are already a Linux user, you just start by getting into one of those apps.

Then:
For most folks all that is needed is some sort of valid XP install media and maybe also an activator because they don't do it anymore.
You install and activate XP the same into a VM container as you do for any other install.
Then install your desired apps into it when the VM is up and running.

One thing that is very cool (IMO) is when it becomes obvious that when it is managed by the virtualizer, XP actually runs faster and better than it does natively.

Also, it is great to just pause and resume a VM session without having to do a full shutdown of the guest OS, which is very quick and easy.

Just FYI:
What I do for my uses is called P2V - in which I use an already installed and tweaked OS to directly make a VM from, and that is a bit more complicated than most folks have any need or use for.

I used udemy-dl. This is old school DOS command line interface only but grabs everything srt, pdf, xls, doc, html, etc... in addition you can specific the video resolution.

I used that tool at one time also - but more often than not it fell behind the constant changes which Udemy makes and it would just not work.

Allavsoft is kept updated parallel to Udemy;
I have yet to see JDL fail so they must either have ways around the changes, or maybe it's frequent self-updating keeps it current - I don't know - all I see is that IT WORKS !!

I always use portables and/or stuff that does NOT require installation if possible.

What Dynasty5 has posted might scare folks IF they do not read the OP of this thread.

His posted VT link is for JDownloader2_Clean_Installer_2.0.0.2.exe, which I did not use as explained in the OP.

What I do use is the JAR file, which opens directly with no installation needed - then it updates itself regularly, so I suggest using that, from here:

I looked into Udeler some time back and saw that it had 2 things that stopped me:
- It is for Chrome;
- The dev had announced the project has been stopped.

I use Vivaldi and don't know if the CRX file will work with that - also, it oes not say which exact versions of Linux or windows it was made for...so I passed it up as Allavsoft works well for me, for Udemy stuff.
