That scares me too, and has for a long time. I want to know about work-arounds. Can one rename file folders? Reduce the signature that google can pick up on? What about other versions (flipmode for example - do some nullers do a better job of it?).

And what about off-shore VPS? Does it mitigate the need to worry about these things?

I don't like trouble. And besides, I read something somewhere, that WHMCS has problems any way. So I would really like to find a better solution, preferably open and free. I want to find something that has add-ons/plugins for mobile devices or is responsive for different screen sizes.

I have read that hostgator provides a whmcs license with there reseller plan, is it true? But I don't want to go hostgator! Tongue

@one.

I've been working very hard on a "WHMCS fork". What is it? Well it's a 80% rewritten version of WHMCS. Function names, variables, file names, directory structure, etc. has changed. I'm using WHMCS as a base to work on because it's already taking care of 90% of our business, so it's easier to look at it and completely modify it than to start something from scratch.

Another reason of why I'm doing this is because there are tons of WHMCS plugins, modules and addons that can be "ported" to this newly created WHMCS-fork. None of them work out of the box, but with some work, I've been able to integrate Proxmox, Freeradius, over 5 domain registrars/registries and most of the payment gateways.

Let's just hope I find enough time to finish it. As soon as I do, you can be sure that it will be shared.

RE:
@learn,

Go ahead, pay for it. I'm not discouraging people from paying for original software! My interest in developing a fork is because I simply don't trust closed source software, and WHMCS is closed source. I also needed functions that are beyond WHMCS API (for an instance, how to create accounts that should be "seen" as hosting accounts but that won't use a domain name, or how to integrate physical goods into each sale).

HEY DopeShow.
How you doing??

Sounds like you've been hard at work :)
Don't give it away! Who will pay for the decryption of files? It costs me an arm and a leg to decrypt files that cannot be done on a basic dezender on the PC.

I have purchased 20+ modules and have updates etc. Plus have started a group buy for WHMCS Modules, where we can buy more modules as people vote for them. The idea is that everyone who supports and funds the group buy allows us to buy legit licences and get all feature updates too.

Anyway, if you need anything decrypted or modules, let me know. Really impressed with what you are doing! :)
10/10 and +5 rep added :)

RE:
Hi Flipped! How are you my friend?

Sorry, I hadn't visited this thread so I hadn't seen your reply.

Where's your group buy? I would love to join!

I'm 90% done with my fork, I've created to versions. A stripped down version that doesn't have some of the "features" that WHMCS includes but that no one uses, and a full one. The stripped down version (I call it "mini") has all basic functionality (domains, hosting, servers, plugins, support tickets, knowledge base, invoicing) and it's the one I love the most, as it's ohh so easy to use and very lightweight. I've also patched some security holes I found, seems like the WHMCS coders think that by checking a token every function is secure, but it still can allow an authorized user (a.k.a. customer) to do unauthorized stuff. I've fixed literally dozens of bugs, but some of them could be caused by the decoder, so it's impossible to know how many I can blame WHMCS for.

Some of the "funds" required to make this happen have been granted by the company I work for. By "funds" I mean "paid spare time to work on it". They are very excited about being able to offer a free CRM+automation software for hosting resellers. They had been looking into giving away WHMCS, Modernbill, ClientExec and others, but the license costs woud just increase the price of their reseller hosting, so having a free one is something they're very interested in.

So far I've automated 3 websites using my fork, they're still some bugs and some features to be added, but at least that allows me to test drive my fork on a production scenario. Whenever they hit a bug, I can fix it in all the sites plus in my developing environment.

Regards :)
