Because your customers need to pay EU VAT for their country, if they live in EU, from January onwards.

the vat is a tax in many eu countries, and now in 2015 that tax will apply to digital or electronic SERVICES, SOFTWARE AND APPS! not other products! somehow, ebooks and other digital downloads are considered a service under the new law. also, you will only pay the vat, if you make a sale in an eu country, you actually need to register in each country, all 28 of them if you do business in them... so if you live in the eu, or sell to a eu country, you will pay the vat tax rate according to that country, there are actually more than 75 different vat rates... they will also target you if you us use an eu tld, regardless of where you live, the eu tld means you expect to do business in that country, so any sale on that tld may apply

if you sell ebooks on amazon, amazon already has the taxes thing built in, they will handle it all for you, thus your earnings will be less now from those 28 countries... and other platforms and money making websites as well are working to integrate the vat taxes as well

yeah, questions often get ignored here
but you have a good question, and i bet most people already know the answer and think it is a stupid question, so they refuse to answer... however, their are no stupid questions, just stupid people with stupid answers! bso anyone? or no answers which is more often the case

as an affiliate, YOU are selling NOTHING! you are promoting something, and earning a commission on the sale of a product that belongs to someone else, that person is responsible for the tax, as he is the 'seller' and only if the buyer is in an eu country

but you will be affected as well, because if the sale requires a tax, YOU 'pay' the tax actually, since the seller will take the tax out of your commission! i doubt any bso seller will pay all the tax out of his own pocket and still give you a full commission. or the seller will make the commission smaller in the first place, because of this supposed taxes they will have to pay... THAT is how business works! sales taxes and vat taxes occur at the point of sale.
