Great info in the replies here !!!

I have read and watched and listened to hype about flipping and have been skeptical of it:
'Just make sites and sell 'em, and make bazillions of $$$ !!'

Nope. Not buying it. That never set right with me.
It seems over-simplified as the great replies here clearly indicate that it actually is.

I can see where making sites to order for established businesses would be profitable for those who have what it takes to be a designer (I don't have this talent) but that idea, vs. making sites for sale and then trying to get them sold ??
That has got to be a krap shoot at best.
Also, I've looked at the stats and such at flippa and I wasn't impressed.

Comparison:
Back when 5.25" floppy disks were the norm, all I had to do was to have boxes of them on hand along with pre-cut sticky labels and cases for them - and whammo - they'd sell.
That high demand faded and it was quite easy NOT to get stuck with a bunch of uselessly outdated stock.

Fast-forward to 2018:
What does one do with a domain and site that doesn't sell...besides eating it, that is ?!?

I believe very strongly in the power of gratitude in general - and even more strongly in showing it when in a sharing situation like this wonderful forum is.

IMO, without taking the few extra moments to express gratitude to those terrific folks who work at sharing so generously of their time and efforts here - the rest of us are no better than a mob at a blue-light sale clobbering each other to get the best deal on a pair of cheapo socks !!!

nothing too interesting about this share to get anyone's panties wet. it was well written, but a little outdated in my book when only talking about auto blogging and flippa. this is so 2014. this person lost me though when she talked about 100% guaranteed sale. no F****** way is anything guaranteed by this one source. she was trying to sell you on that idea after people bought the ebook(talk about desperate for no refunds)

will this work? yes
will this work as well as she explained it? no
did it used to work as well as she explained it? yes

the biggest empty spot in the ebook was how to sell it if it doesn't sell on flippa or having to sell it at or below cost. she didn't cover this because she sells you on the ASSUMPTION that all sites will sell guaranteed.

let's face it. making a website has never been the problem. there are so many tutorials on the different sites you can create it's not even funny. selling one or monetizing one has been and will always be the problem for newbies.

what people have to do when they read an ebook like this is take it with a grain of salt and then go and think outside the box including possibly packaging 5 of those sites together. you don't have to sell them individually and you can sell a non unique package to 10 buyers. i've seen this done successfully too. hell. if you spend an extra week monetizing the sites where they are making $1 a day profit, you triple the site worth and those are a lot easier to sell on flippa or you just keep the site for yourself as long as it can pay for itself and hold out for a high reserve or b.i.n.

from my experience, i basic site ain't shit. it's the domain people are attracted to. you can have the shittiest site in the world and people will buy it if it's attached to a great domain name. if you like doing the same thing over and over and over and over again like building these autoblogs to sell, might as well resell domains instead. probably make more money and faster.....

Thank you for your perspective. I was intrigued by your last thought - that domains might be the way to go. Any suggestions about how to find those great domain names in a reliable way?

Visiting the link quoted shows no pricing for these immediately - it almost makes 'em look like they're free...but - visiting the root domain shows this:
