Who told you niche sites have to be small? You can make a niche site as big as you want. A 1,000 page site on german shepherd training would still be a niche site.

social signals is BS! it's hard for google to use it as main metric since google is not the owner of twitter and facebook. Just go out there, build HIGH quality backlinks!
