Thanks for the great tip! I know that there's at least one other messaging type service that assigns you free numbers (definitely not Google Voice, it's something else). I wish I had written it down, I'll come back and post here when I find out what it is.

Are you talking about TextNow? http://www.textnow.com or are you talking about services for voice recording?

Just bear in mind that their numbers do not work for a lot of sites. Like yahoo, youtube etc.
