Yes, absolutely, a "CITATION" is an official acknowledgment of merit: an official document or speech that praises somebody's actions, accomplishments, or character.

"Dead links": links that do not work.

But I personally don't get it?

Never tried this but it seems it is like this. You will often see wiki pages that some editor says, need citation, in other words proof of what is being said. You can go and find that proof and include the proof on your site and get a really good link to your site via the citation from the Wiki page.

Some times links in citations eventually go dead because a site disappears or whatever. You can replace that link with one to your site containing the proper info. Pheonix300 says

for a very good reason. If you do a good job the link will stay for a long time. If you do a crap job some editor will come along and remove your link in no time.

I think this is the general idea anyway. I think this would also work with Wikipedia pages as well. Of course all these pages would have to be related to your niche in some way.

EXCELLENT question.......... it's easy to find 'citation needed' on a page, but a dead link on a page full of links?? Probably a browser plugin or something might do the trick, or 3rd party program.
