oh! thought the license is required only for automatic plugin updates.

After activating the plugin, If you go to a post or page you can see the Motopress content editor button just under the Title text box. Did you try if it is working from here?

I just tested the latest version in a WP install without the license key and can confirm that the plugin works without issues. Please check once more.
