Are ripped Themes dangerous to use?
Hi guys I am looking into building a website using a theme I found on this forum. I was wondering if I could use it normaly without any problem.

My main concern is are these themes trackable and do I need to buy them in order to use them properly? And could I potentially get sued if I use a stolen theme?

Can you guys tell me what you think about that?

RE:
The chances are you will be OK, provided the theme is clean and has not
had any back doors put in it. There is always a risk but it is small, in my opinion
The other option would be to join a group buy, there are plenty on here and you get the full
product and updates.
hope that helps

RE:
Most of the themes/plugins these days are infected by a backlinking script embedded in the files. The social.png infection is usually easy to spot.

refer the two threads

http://bestblackhatforum.com/Thread-Be-C...INS-THEMES

These are two of the most prevalent instances of malicious scripts. If anything else has been added to the code or css files, it can be harder to track down.

thanks guys. I found a nice theme and I only have 250$ to start my agency. Once I close my first client I could easily buy the theme.

What are the effects of the backlink script? Does it create junk backlinks to my site or does it send a signals to themeforest that I stole the theme?

Actually I read the two threads and I checked the page of the theme I want. I think it is safe since the theme has been posted by a super VIP lifetime with 128 rep and that 5 people have repped him : http://bestblackhatforum.com/Thread-GET-...web+agency

Would that be an example of a safe download?

RE:
blacklink scripts usually insert backlinks into your site-pages to other sites, which are near impossible to remove without removing the infected script.

The worst part is that these links are visible to Google and under your sites name in search results, the meta decription will show text pointing to these other sites. So if you are selling phones on your site which is infected, the meta description could show viagra, betting, casino descriptions.

I know this because I had a site which got infected due to this, when I was a newbie - it took about 3 days for me to figure out what was causing weird text in search results and it was a PITA to remove.

RE:
In all honesty, you should check the themes for yourself. Go through the codes and the folders. You can never be too safe.
