Advice - someone has been trying to hack my website

I need some advice on how to go about getting rid of a leach. Its obvious that the person has no idea of their own since internet marketing niches are so few for the small minded person. So the hacker has been targeting my small little website which gets an average of 30 page views a day and is ranking on Page 1 after 6 months.

At first they registered 3 other domain names and "framed" my website in all 3. Picked it up when adsense earnings were reflecting hits and filed a DMCA complaint and Google took action. Also filed complaints with their host who subsequently removed the websites. This was mid February.

Today - the same domain owner somehow got into my .htacess file and redirected my site to one of the domains. I usually don't monitor my website all the time but was busy uploading a new plugin when they did this. I picked up a change in my files on my server and remedied it by blocking the IP address and updating my .htaccess file.

Now I have no idea how hacking of wordpress sites work and am not really interested in all that as my goal is to just pass on information and grow the site slowly and eventually get a residual income using this website. I just upload an original article once a week so the content gets indexed by Google.

The question is how do I get rid of this leach as its getting really annoying and any other tips and tricks from the pros?

Well i cant see how he modified your .htaccess unless he got into your control panel, ftp or some other way to modify that file. You should start of by changing your password including the one to mysql. Once thats done ensure you dont have any directories with a perm of 777. They should be all 755. Make sure wp is the latest version and that youve installed some kind of wp secuity module to keep the guy out. Is your wp password easy to remember? Change the password!

Thanks! Sorted out. I have a secure password. Quite obvious that the hacker is just after my little website. Just so frustrating that people would rather spend time copying another person's idea instead of looking at their own way to make an income online. There are thousands of niches out there.
