These are the 14 red flags to identify the scammer in your life before they con you—from a victim-turned-vigilante and host of the hit podcast Queen of the Con.

“Johnathan Walton has written a master class on how to spot scammers, con artists, grifters, and thieves. And his storytelling reads like a crime novel. . . . A must-read.”—Joe Navarro, FBI special agent (ret.) and author of the international bestseller Dangerous Personalities

“Some people play golf on the weekends,” Johnathan Walton says. “I hunt con artists.”

Con artists are everywhere—your new boyfriend or girlfriend, your new neighbor or coworker, your new friend—and they don’t outsmart you; they out-feel you to get their hands on your money. In Anatomy of a Con Artist, Walton lays out “the tells” based on hundreds of real-life cases he’s investigated, including:

Red Flag #1—A Stranger Offering Help: Someone new and overly helpful insinuates themselves into your life.

Red Flag #3—Drama, Drama, Drama: Constant dramatic “emergencies” to pull you in.

Red Flag #8—Beak Wetting: Faux generosity—gifts, money, or favors to bring your guard down.

After being scammed out of nearly $100,000 by a devious con artist, Walton was turned away by police. Infuriated and armed with the investigative skills he’d gained from years as a TV reporter, Walton launched his own investigation and built a compelling criminal case authorities could not ignore. Walton got his con artist charged, prosecuted, and convicted, then devoted his life to helping other victims do the same. This book packs in all he has learned.

Some con artists scheme for money, some for attention, some just for the thrill of lying. And if you think it can’t happen to you, then you are exactly the kind of “mark” a professional con artist is looking for. With this insightful guide in your hands, you are far less likely to get conned and far more likely to spot these nefarious manipulators from a mile away—and cross the street when you see them coming.

Hello everyone,

I’ve watched this forum evolve through waves of crypto exploits, loophole scripts, and now endless pages of automated AI bot registrations.

I look at the marketplace today, and I see a lot of brilliant minds wasting their talent. You are spending 15 hours a day trying to hack an algorithm, bypass a KYC, or find a temporary glitch in a social media network.

Let me tell you a brutal truth that comes from over a decade of watching people succeed and fail online: When you spend your life hacking someone else's system, you are always at their mercy. The moment they update the code, your entire "business" vanishes.

The elite marketers on this planet don't spend their time hacking. They spend their time building.

I want to take you away from the modern noise and show you three boring, historical examples of real trading and marketing. These men didn't have computers, internet, or AI. Yet, they built empires because they understood the eternal laws of human commerce.

1. Claude Hopkins (1920s) – Stop Selling the Feature, Solve the Problem

A century ago, nobody cared about brushing teeth. Pepsodent was just another product on a shelf. They hired Claude Hopkins.

Hopkins didn't try to hack the market with cheap tricks or discounts. He studied the human psychology. He found that teeth naturally develop a film. He didn't sell the ingredients of the toothpaste; he created a trigger: "Run your tongue across your teeth. You feel that film? It makes your teeth look ugly. Brush it away."

* The Lesson for BBHF: Most of you are trying to sell tools, bots, or software by shouting about features ("Look at my proxy script! Look at my multithreaded compiler!"). Nobody cares. People buy solutions to their feelings and problems. Stop trying to find a loophole to push junk products. Find a real problem in the real world, solve it clearly, and people will block your checkout page trying to buy it.

2. David Ogilvy (1950s) – The Power of the "Hook" and the Story

In the 1950s, a tiny shirt manufacturer called Hathaway wanted to compete with massive brands. They had zero leverage and a small budget. David Ogilvy took the job.

Instead of writing a standard, technical description of the cotton or stitching, he put an eyepatch on the model wearing the shirt. The "Man in the Hathaway Shirt" became an overnight sensation because it created instant mystery. Why is he wearing it? Is he a spy? An aristocrat?

* The Lesson for BBHF: Right now, millions of automated AI profiles are flooding TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. They look like bots, they talk like bots, and they provide zero value. They fail because they have no soul. Ogilvy taught us that curiosity and storytelling are what make human beings stop and look. If you use AI, don't use it to spam thousands of dead accounts. Use it to create a powerful, unforgettable story that genuinely interests people.

3. Al Ries and Jack Trout (1970s) – Positioning in a Crowded World

By the 1970s, the market was flooded with noise. Al Ries and Jack Trout realized you cannot win by just claiming you are "the best" or "the fastest." You have to occupy a specific, unique space in the customer's mind.

When Avis car rental was losing heavily to Hertz, they didn't fake their stats. They ran an ad: "Avis is only No. 2 in rent-a-cars. So why go with us? We try harder." It turned their weakness into their greatest psychological strength.

* The Lesson for BBHF: You don't need to build a perfect, massive empire on day one. You don't need to compete with Google or Amazon. You just need to find a small, specific niche where you can be the absolute choice for a specific group of people. Be honest, position yourself uniquely, and build a real brand.

---

The Anonymous Reality Check

Picture the modern "Anonymous" guy sitting behind his screen today. He has a casual life—he goes for a run, sips his cappuccino, visits his family or takes his wife to the zoo. His server is running a script in the background, generating automated profiles, promising the world to a naivety-driven audience.

Does he make a bit of money today? Maybe. But tomorrow, TikTok changes a single line of code, his automated profiles get nuked, and he is back to absolute zero, panicking in front of a blank screen.

Now look at the guy who actually understood Hopkins, Ogilvy, and Ries. He used his coding and marketing skills to build a real, legitimate digital asset. He created a real brand, a real service, or a high-value educational product. He doesn't care if an algorithm changes tomorrow, because he owns the customer relationship and the value.

My Challenge to You

Stop looking for the next autopilot exploit. Stop trying to "hack" your way to wealth in 24 hours. It’s an illusion.

Use your brilliant technical and marketing skills to create something of actual value. Build a real landing page that solves a problem. Write a story that hooks people. Position a product that lasts.

Once you learn how to build instead of how to hack, you stop being a slave to the platform algorithms. You become the owner of the game.

The script is running. The timer is set. What are you going to build today?

Let's start building.

From the bestselling author of The Psychology of Money and Same as Ever, lessons on harnessing the power of money to live a happier life

Most of us don’t know how to spend money. We chase things that impress others but leave us cold. Or we save endlessly, afraid to spend on what would actually make life better. We confuse admiration with envy, comfort with excess, and utility with status.

The Art of Spending Money doesn't provide budgets, hacks, or one-size-fits-all solutions. It gives you understanding of how your relationship with money shapes your decisions—and how to reshape it so money works for you.

Morgan Housel’s work has helped millions rethink how they earn, save, and invest. Now he turns his attention to the other side of the equation: how to spend. With insight and warmth, he shows why the most valuable return on investment is peace of mind, why expectations matter more than income, and why doing well with money has less to do with spreadsheets and more to do with self-awareness.

This book isn’t about getting rich. It’s about getting the most out of what you already have—and learning to want what’s worth wanting.

New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller

A step-by-step plan clinically proven to break the cycle of worry and fear that drives anxiety and addictive habits

We are living through one of the most anxious periods any of us can remember. Whether facing issues as public as a pandemic or as personal as having kids at home and fighting the urge to reach for the wine bottle every night, we are feeling overwhelmed and out of control. But in this timely book, Judson Brewer explains how to uproot anxiety at its source using brain-based techniques and small hacks accessible to anyone.

We think of anxiety as everything from mild unease to full-blown panic. But it's also what drives the addictive behaviors and bad habits we use to cope (e.g. stress eating, procrastination, doom scrolling and social media). Plus, anxiety lives in a part of the brain that resists rational thought. So we get stuck in anxiety habit loops that we can't think our way out of or use willpower to overcome. Dr. Brewer teaches us to map our brains to discover our triggers, defuse them with the simple but powerful practice of curiosity, and to train our brains using mindfulness and other practices that his lab has proven can work.

Distilling more than 20 years of research and hands-on work with thousands of patients, including Olympic athletes and coaches, and leaders in government and business, Dr. Brewer has created a clear, solution-oriented program that anyone can use to feel better - no matter how anxious they feel.

#1 Wall Street Journal Bestseller

The Obstacle is the Way has become a cult classic, beloved by men and women around the world who apply its wisdom to become more successful at whatever they do.

Its many fans include a former governor and movie star (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a hip hop icon (LL Cool J), an Irish tennis pro (James McGee), an NBC sportscaster (Michele Tafoya), and the coaches and players of winning teams like the New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Cubs, and University of Texas men’s basketball team.

The book draws its inspiration from stoicism, the ancient Greek philosophy of enduring pain or adversity with perseverance and resilience. Stoics focus on the things they can control, let go of everything else, and turn every new obstacle into an opportunity to get better, stronger, tougher. As Marcus Aurelius put it nearly 2000 years ago: “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.”

Ryan Holiday shows us how some of the most successful people in history—from John D. Rockefeller to Amelia Earhart to Ulysses S. Grant to Steve Jobs—have applied stoicism to overcome difficult or even impossible situations. Their embrace of these principles ultimately mattered more than their natural intelligence, talents, or luck.

If you’re feeling frustrated, demoralized, or stuck in a rut, this book can help you turn your problems into your biggest advantages. And along the way it will inspire you with dozens of true stories of the greats from every age and era.

Think like Leonardo da Vinci, Albert Einstein, and Charles Darwin.

Great geniuses before us have uncovered certain key principles on their path to greatness.

You can learn those principles now, without all of the sweat, tears, and costly mistakes.

Imagine that you could tap into the minds of many great geniuses. Think how they could help you solve challenging problems, broaden your mental horizons, and avoid common pitfalls. They actually can, if we study the principles that they lived by, and incorporate them into our lives.

Internationally best-selling author I. C. Robledo has identified the principles that the most brilliant people in history have used to make great accomplishments.

Inside, you will discover:

(#13) Why you should always have questions.
(#15) The importance of listening to people with different perspectives...even when you disagree with them.
(#19) How to avoid restricting your genius potential.
(#27) That we all have false ways of viewing the world.
(#37) How to observe patterns, and the anomalies that do not fit the pattern.

This book is about luck, or more precisely, how we perceive and deal with luck in life and business. It is already a landmark work and its title has entered our vocabulary. In its second edition, Fooled by Randomness is now a cornerstone for anyone interested in random outcomes.

Set against the backdrop of the most conspicuous forum in which luck is mistaken for skill, the world of trading, this audiobook is a captivating insight into one of the least understood factors of all our lives. In an entertaining narrative style, the author succeeds in tackling three major intellectual issues: the problem of induction, the survivorship biases, and our genetic unfitness to the modern word. Taleb uses stories and anecdotes to illustrate our overestimation of causality and the heuristics that make us view the world as far more explainable than it actually is.

The book is populated with an array of characters, some of whom have grasped, in their own way, the significance of chance: Yogi Berra, the baseball legend; Karl Popper, the philosopher of knowledge; Solon, the ancient world's wisest man; the modern financier George Soros; and the Greek voyager Ulysses. We also meet the fictional Nero, who seems to understand the role of randomness in his professional life, but who also falls victim to his own superstitious foolishness.

But the most recognizable character remains unnamed, the lucky fool in the right place at the right time - the embodiment of the "Survival of the Least Fit". Such individuals attract devoted followers who believe in their guru's insights and methods. But no one can replicate what is obtained through chance.

It may be impossible to guard against the vagaries of the Goddess Fortuna, but after listening to Fooled by Randomness we can be a little better prepared.
AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
"Burkeman and his irresistible British accent shifted my paradigm a couple centimeters . . . 'The day will never arrive when you have everything under control,' he calmly whispered in my ear, and I think I believed him." - Vulture

"The philosophical tone of his delivery is perfect for [Burkeman's] thoughtful message: We can enjoy life more if we appreciate the present moment, stay in touch with our deeper selves, and nurture our connections with people and the natural world." - AudioFile Magazine

"Provocative and appealing . . . well worth your extremely limited time." —Barbara Spindel, The Wall Street Journal

The average human lifespan is absurdly, insultingly brief. Assuming you live to be eighty, you have just over four thousand weeks.

Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon. Still, we rarely make the connection between our daily struggles with time and the ultimate time management problem: the challenge of how best to use our four thousand weeks.

Drawing on the insights of both ancient and contemporary philosophers, psychologists, and spiritual teachers, Oliver Burkeman delivers an entertaining, humorous, practical, and ultimately profound guide to time and time management. Rejecting the futile modern fixation on “getting everything done,” Four Thousand Weeks introduces readers to tools for constructing a meaningful life by embracing finitude, showing how many of the unhelpful ways we’ve come to think about time aren’t inescapable, unchanging truths, but choices we’ve made as individuals and as a society—and that we could do things differently.

Unlock the hidden powers of your mind.

These secret principles of genius have been hidden, lost, or even forgotten through time. They have played a critical role in the greatest achievements of humanity, yet most of us are unaware of them. Now, they are finally revealed.

Internationally best-selling author I. C. Robledo has profiled the brightest minds to demonstrate why these secret principles are so important. Their lives range from time periods that span millennia and include a wide range of cultures, professions, and personalities. We will explore the intellect of icons such as Leonardo da Vinci, Albert Einstein, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Maria Montessori, and Sun Tzu.

An important theme is that brilliant people have used these principles to accomplish what no one thought was possible. When everyone said no, they still found a way to make it happen. What has become clear through the ages is that with the right principles, it is possible to tap into a potential that is limitless.

Discover the secret principles that changed the following lives:

Leonardo da Vinci, the Renaissance man who gave us the Mona Lisa and was so committed to learning the human form that he dissected cadavers
Dr. Ben Carson, who grew up in a Detroit ghetto, yet he gained notoriety as a neurosurgeon for separating conjoined twins successfully
Wolfgang Mozart, and the secret principle that played a major role in his incredible rise to stardom in the classical music scene
Sun Tzu, whose timeless military wisdom has been applied in countless battles and beyond to business, law, and chess
The late musical artist Prince, who played 27 musical instruments and had no tolerance for low standards
Maria Montessori, who was ages ahead of her time with her revolutionary system for educating children
Ben Underwood, a boy who learned to “see” the world despite having his eyes removed because of retinal cancer
Many more brilliant minds and lives, and the secret principles they applied are discussed

From a New York Times best-selling author, psychotherapist, and national advice columnist, a hilarious, thought-provoking, and surprising new book that takes us behind the scenes of a therapist's world - where her patients are looking for answers (and so is she).

One day, Lori Gottlieb is a therapist who helps patients in her Los Angeles practice. The next, a crisis causes her world to come crashing down. Enter Wendell, the quirky but seasoned therapist in whose office she suddenly lands. With his balding head, cardigan, and khakis, he seems to have come straight from Therapist Central Casting. Yet he will turn out to be anything but.

As Gottlieb explores the inner chambers of her patients' lives - a self-absorbed Hollywood producer, a young newlywed diagnosed with a terminal illness, a senior citizen threatening to end her life on her birthday if nothing gets better, and a 20-something who can't stop hooking up with the wrong guys - she finds that the questions they are struggling with are the very ones she is now bringing to Wendell.

With startling wisdom and humor, Gottlieb invites us into her world as both clinician and patient, examining the truths and fictions we tell ourselves and others as we teeter on the tightrope between love and desire, meaning and mortality, guilt and redemption, terror and courage, hope and change.

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone is revolutionary in its candor, offering a deeply personal yet universal tour of our hearts and minds and providing the rarest of gifts: a boldly revealing portrait of what it means to be human and a disarmingly funny and illuminating account of our own mysterious lives and our power to transform them.
