Dear Planet Perry Member: 150 years ago, the Prussian military genius Carl Von Clausewitz attained godlike status for his mastery of the psychology of war. Perhaps his most important contribution was his doctrine of the Force Multiplier: A small advantage in firepower and manpower leads to a huge advantage in outcome:If Army A has 2 units and Army B has 3 units, then the force B has an advantage of 3²-2² which is 5.
If Army A still has 2 units and Army B has 4 units then force B has an advantage of 4²-2² or 12.
If Army A still has 2 units and Army B has 5 units then force B has an advantage of 5²-2² or 21.
If you are a small company (or one-man band) this has terrifying consequences. It means if you’re outnumbered 4:2, your odds of losing are 12:1.
This might explain why you’re struggling to compete with much larger companies.

That’s the bad news:
But the good news is, this is not the 19th century. This is not the century of Carl Von Clausewitz and this is not Prussia. This is the 21st century where all the world’s a stage, where force is not armies and guns. Force is persuasion and all possible means of influencing a customer.
Clausewitz was renowned for his grasp of psychological warfare. At the time he called it the “moral” aspect of war. Today you would call it morale. He insisted that the psychological is three times more important than the physical.
But the physical matters too.
