RE:
unless you get a REAL Paper legal letter served to you by someone in person or a registered mail that you must sign for, then honestly you should just ignore it. they will make it know if it is really them....

Besides they wouldn't ask you "please take it down" they go directly to the host and the registrar get the domain frozen and then you'll find out :)

Its a .com. If it is ebay, they can go to the registrar to take it down. Doesn't matter where you host or where you live. If you want to continue long term business, probably should think up another name.

Very similar thing happened to me too, twice, when used ebay and lego in the domain name. I did nothing but the names were no longer mine. This would seem legit based on my experience.

someone forgot to tell the owner of nissan.com

nissan has been trying to sue this guy for years and continues to lose their case. maybe the owner of nissan.com should view some if these ridiculous comments so he can immediately surrender his domain name.

First of all if any company launch a complaint they must provide/attached there legal document in the mail. So check your mail properly if they had provided you the legal document. Trade mark legal copy and Copyright Legal Documents. If they are not present then ;) ask them to send you. Because That's a fake mail. Any Reputed company Never forget to attach these legal document in the mail.

RE:
your a law student? i hope not in the u.s. because ebay was obviously sending a courtesy letter stating their complaint without taking any legal action as of yet. and ofcourse, there is no need to be sending legal documents when doing so. it would be a waste of time and money for the legal dept. to do so if a courtesy letter is all that is needed for a person to comply with the law.

your understanding of the law right now is a little subjective. what are they teaching you guys there? bring thris thread up to your professor and respond with a more intelligent answer than the one you gave above AFTER you have done so.

Well i got one from a movie studio, forwarded from my domain provider because i had privacy on it. And they had all legal names you could find them online and legal dept personel, they said pretty much the same, i just let them expire. They said i could transfer it to them too, i blew them off and never used them.
