Lastly, you will need to update your knowledge about finders' fees in 2024 related to your business interests because a lot will have changed from the time authors like J.F. Straw and Jack Payne published their books many years ago.

In pulling together links for this share, I learned that, for example, in the state of California, realtors who are inactive (not currently practicing/dormant license) cannot ask for a referral or finders' fee when doing a real estate transaction unless they bring their license to active status (there are few exceptions).

In some businesses, it is illegal to charge or pay a finder's fee - such as in security exchange (stocks).

So do the research. Talk to people in the know. Get your duckies all in a row before you set up shop or you could be inviting government scrutiny that could put you in legal hot water even before you get your first client.

Below are some questions you will need to consider (and find the answers to) before you proceed:

- Are finders' fees legal in my line of work or my type of business?
- How can I be sure my contacts won't broker a deal with my client and keep me out of the loop?
- Are finders' fees taxable?
- Do I need to file a 1099 for finders' fees I earn?
- What happens if the payor reneges on paying me the finders' fee? What course of action can I pursue, if any?
- What is a reasonable finders' fee for a particular transaction?

This is an interesting business model and not one I recall hearing about before which actually seems kind of odd to me. Thanks for the enlightening info...

I organized it to make the reading a bit easier and figured I would share.

All the downloads are included plus a few extra I found so everything in one file.

I did try and find the Jason White book on government contracting but so far no luck. I do have some other books on the subject so I went ahead and included those as well.

As for the Jason White government contracting product, I shared the course on a Mega link that has now gone dead (The link wasn't mine --- I found it online).

It looks like the rightful account owner removed all of the files. And, of course, nobody who managed to download it mirrored the share for others.

I later found the file on an external HD and in post #11, I uploaded it to Up4Ever but decided to make it a short-lived link, because people who download should occasionally mirror some of what they get.

That short-lived link stopped working on July 1, 2024 because that's the way I set it up to operate.

The lesson I've learned on this forum is this: You can provide links for people but you can't make them mirror. They will thank you (or not) and they will click to get the file onto their computer --- but rarely will they help another by mirroring the file.

Now, instead of the course, if you were referring to Jason White's book, The Federal Code Government Contracting, I haven't been able to find that, either, but below is a link to another ebook on the basics of government contracting that may be of some interest:
