It's not clear ???

It means don't try to sell at all.

Not during the crisis.

During the crisis, inform people, reassure them, and try to make them think to something else.

RE: How to make money on coronavirus
Even if you want to look past the reasons I wrote about earlier, something like this is very hard to "monetize" because it is so dynamic. Things are changing by the minute. By the time you publish an e-book or do a video, what-have-you, it could become obsolete. Public health officials are updating us by the moment and things they said a week ago may no longer apply today --- or may need to be modified.

I took a look at the resell rights link jamalexa posted (thank you for that, by the way!) and the e-book clearly was written at the onset of the virus. Right off the bat, I see questions like Should one stay in China? Or Where in the world is the risk highest?

We all know those answers by now just from watching the news. People traveling from China to other parts of the world is how this virus spread so quickly. And

This is such an unprecedented phenomenon that it's very difficult to put out any "information" about it aside from the already well-known precautions (like hand-washing, social distancing, etc.) without a marketer's product looking dated.

That's just my take on it but I personally feel that it's unconscionable to try and make money from something like a global health crisis. Something that is constantly in a state of flux, like this virus is, will be very difficult to monetize.

There are so many other health and wellness markets to make money from; like the Board Room Reports newsletter and other companies do. A viral pandemic is usually short term (or let's pray that this one will be --- based on the rising death toll!). The economic impact of it with all the jobs lost or temporarily suspended will make people less likely to spend discretionary funds on information products when their local and national news is a more viable means for up-to-the-minute real-time updates.

Thanks

RE: How to make money on coronavirus
Creating short ebooks, like "How to Make Hand Sanitizer" may be a way to help those needing this information and make some money along the way. Another area where one may be able to monetize during this time is the development of apps or software that could help speed up or simplify the process for businesses to move their operations online.

There are a lot of government agencies being overwhelmed with the phone and online traffic because they are not fully operational online. They tend to conduct a lot of business in person, i.e., applying for unemployment, applying for public assistance, etc. Coming up with an app or software to streamline the process would be helpful.

As layna61524 has mentioned, with the dissemination of information during a crisis, there are so many moving pieces. Things are constantly changing and every day brings new information. Therefore, it would be more difficult to publish information in the midst of the crisis that would not be obsolete before the ink dries. Going for something more evergreen, like how to make hand sanitizer, would be wiser.

Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay home!

Dude, the ones who are taking advantage of a disaster while many people are dying outside and/or losing their loved ones just make me sick.
What I can advice you, go make some donations for the ones in need. By this way, I'm sure you'll be more human, mentally stronger, and will make more money later from other things. The life will award you sooner or later.

RE: How to make money on coronavirus
If you are following the news, the current trend shows that there is a surge in online orders especially on platforms like Amazon. Amazon is planning to recruit about 100K new staff to take care of this surge. Sales of fitness equipment, protection kits especially are going up. You can promote these items by writing an informative blog which will give guidelines about protection from COVID-19 and suggest them various ways to stay healthy during the quarantine - using your affiliate links.

RE: How to make money on coronavirus
I agree that a humane way of making money is doing what most of us do ANYWAY IM, online book sales are up, local places need sanitizer, you can make it from Oil of Oregano and some essential oils and sell it. literally puzzles are through the roof, I was so shocked, and things people can do while bored at home.
We are in perilous times, but someone is still profiting from these things, if you are making money please donate to a local shelter or food pantry to those in need.

RE: How to make money on coronavirus
Being unethical during any crisis is wrong.

However, developing or operating a business or service that serves and/or stimulates the economy and makes a profit in the process during a crisis is not.

This is not the same as supporting price gauging that we see going on.

Not everyone can afford to give their knowledge, experience, time or resources away for free or even just to break even.

If a person or business that can't afford to do that does so they too will become a victim of this situation and cease to be of any good to anyone including those that depend on them (...think family, employees, outsourced workers etc) to keep being productive.

I am in the process of educating small business owners on how to determine where their focus should be and letting them know WHAT they need to do at no cost to them.

If they want to know how to do those things in detail either because they do not have the capability to do it themselves or they don't want to learn how, to I offer services that I charge for to do it for them.

This is no different to how I used to do business before the crisis with the main difference being the amount of information i.e. the WHAT that I'm making available at this point in time.

My point is this.

We need to get it clear in our head that operating a business that serves and meets needs in any situation is not wrong whether you're a not-for-profit or a for profit business.

Like many other owners of real-world businesses here on BBHF I was in business during the dot com bust, the 2008 recession and now COVID-19 and know that you don't and won't survive crisis by losing your head ... or being unethical.

To be clear, I'm not saying how you as a BBHF member or anyone else feels about this topic or what you have stated in your contribution to this thread is correct, wrong or in between because we're all entitled to our opinions, how we each choose to run our real world business(es) and who we are at our core.
