My review

Thanks to Anton and Iojik for making this hassle free.

This is a concise, well organized small course.
You do niche research fast by checking traffic on quantcast.

You make sure you have a passionate niche and a straight up fan page so that FB doesn't take it from you.

You buy some well targeted traffic to goose the beginning of the FB page.
I would say, if you don't have the 100-200$ this will cost you, buy some less well targeted traffic (status updates) on tener, gigbucks, fiverr. Just get someone whose FB page is somewhat close to the subject of your FB page. Say a dog or pet page w/ 50k fans would get you the 2000-4000 fans he wants to see in the beginning.

Once you get that 2000, you stop the FB ad. Quantcast lets you do the tight focus on the demographics. pay attention to that. FB can eat money and your lunch! So, for dachsunds you know most site visitors in USA are white women
over 40 (even though these dogs were temple dogs in ancient, pre
Arabic, Egypt).
It's worth it to get on this guy's list as he takes a logical, no
frills, no self applause approach. I don't know him. I'm just saying.
That being said-- the devil is in the details.
Don't set up a FB ad and go to work and check it at lunchtime. Keep your eagle eye on it until you know how the fish is hopping on the end of that line.


Tho it's not said explicitly-- the reason he gets optins when he makes a post with a good pic-- is that good old confusion factor. People hit the link before they really see the share button farther down the page.

I gotta say-- Using a weird animal as the example for the course, begs the issue somewhat though. Dachshunds give you both a well defined niche and passionate folks, from the git go.
Those requirements should be in the back of your mind when you choose a FB niche to go with this model.

He claims very high conversions using this method. Something like 40+% and 25+% optin and conversions; if I remember right when I grokked it last night.


I have an idea that links this up with another business model. HINT-- you don't have to always go directly to an affiliate offer on this. Get creative.

It's a good course. Until there are some results a couple months down the road, it's premature to say how well it does and if the fans stick.
That also depends on how well you keep capturing emotion by the picture-- say, in a business oriented site, which would be tougher to do (Seomoz and wordtracker are good at that in what is essentially boring old SEO.)

The power in your ongoing posts is the real crux of the course! Emotion and trust. I'm not sure that can be taught. You've got to catch their attention.

But it's a good course to lay out the organization and focus of getting into FB and out, without wasting time. You set the posts up on a schedule, so you get it all done once a month. Boom. He keeps you away from stuff that would be just distracting frills.

I agree with you 100%, and I give you +5 for taking the time to share your thoughts and review on it. I've gone through this, and ALL of his other FB stuff, and like you said, the devil is in the details, and he kinda wants to gloss over the real truth behind WHY its working for him. He uses the PET niche as his example which are an extremely passionate bunch, but IMHO his newsletter example was pretty lame and I do not see it converting well, so I recommend greater creativity with your offer.

I have been in SEO mostly for the past 3 years and starting to transition into social media (facebook mostly) alot more over the past few months. What I am left wondering is, there has to be a way to get some REAL facebook likes to get to that 2000-4000 number for free, but I do agree that that sort of #'s are needed as your sort of "seed fans" to get the ball rolling and create exponential growth. I have about a dozen pages and only a couple that are really starting to go anywhere and it's been alot of work to get that inital fan base of active fans because I have not done any paid ads. Being an SEO it just sorta goes against my nature to pay for ads:) So, I'd be interested to hear of any ideas other than the paid ads to get that initial group of 2-4k fans.

I noticed (by looking closely at the screen) when he shows his autoresponder account it only had about 1,300 people on his list, which is not very many considering the effort he's put forth here, leaving me to question whether or not I'm willing to invest even $100 into it to be honest. It is possible to get 1,300 onto a list by doing an a solo ad for $100 (not likely... but possible... more like $300 probably) but that would be almost instant, without having some daily grind of posting all this shit every day. He never mentioned the size of his list, he never mentioned how long he's been doing this either, nor any sort of numbers really. For all I know it's taken him 6 months to create this list of 1,300 people. I see quite a few holes in his system (assuming he's REALLY doing just what he says he's doing) and I could likely boost conversions dramatically.

Anyway, I'd rather do this without an ad spend and see how it goes and spend my money in other areas that I KNOW works to build my list (like buying solo ads), so I'd love to hear any ideas on generating REAL likes on the FREE. I tried one other method from another book that was basically logging in as the page, then going to other pages in the same niche and liking peoples comments on the threads on that page. I liked about 300 comments this way, and did not generate a single return like to my page. So, that one is out IMHO. Any other ideas?

You don't need to buy fans in these kind of niches through outsourcers.
At some time, Facebook will do similar things like Google - weeding out these marketing accounts and discount their likes in Edgerank.

Buy FB ads to get fans (likes for FB pages are much cheaper than for outside pages) and use the free tricks in the (Face)Book...
You'll get them even with low cost dirty paid traffic too... If the image shown is enticing enough to like / share, you get your fan base built easily with that.

Also check out Dr. Ben's other courses you'll find here on the forum (Evi1 FB Magician 1, Offline S0cia1 Pi10t) and you'll get some really good free tactics (tagging, commenting etc) to get real fans and a high level of engagement for your audience.

A list of 1300 rabid fans is quite some achievement. And he got it fast from a small fan page growing rapidly.

I agree with you-- w/many of these WSo's you never know if they get beyond the trial stage.
The more ethical ones get it working and going. But you usually never know if it gets to the "robust" stage.

I would give people something solid to download. For dog breeds-- why not a pdf on breeding them; something you can upsell from later?

So i would keep offering things to the list, so you get an idea of what they like. Or, of say what 25% of them like. At least I get a segmented list.
This tells me when I get something that only appeals to a small subset.

But something I'm trying to deal with now, -- You know how people don't like leaving fb for another site, we're told.
But maybe it's a social thing. I think we can get them from pinterest to fb, for example, more easily than out to ebay/azon right away. But it depends on the niche. Something cerebral, you can lose them, in my experience. But pinterest can work like a meme site. and then scoop them up into FB, with excitement. "wow, I found this great little booklet on breeding these little hot dogs on facebook. --fascinating, the whole breeder network thing. and I make a nice little bit. " [Personally I would never back having more of those dogs around. But, that's me. ]

Other than that, I like the self made blog network, and offering toolbars (renouf's honey badger thing a while back was good)
Tech saavy people, and the young'uns hate those things. But the chit chat set, male or female, still can get delighted about info on their "thing" just given to them-- "at your service, ma'am." "Here you are, sir"
