I agree... Thumbtack forces vendors into a price comparison paradigm, as if they are commodities and the job should go to the lowest bidder. This is exactly the opposite approach a good marketer should be taking. Prove what makes you special and you won't have to compete on price.

All of you are doing it wrong. To get people to throw their money at you to buy your service you need to first give them something of value!

Here is what I do when it comes to landing local clients or just about anyone who wants a website.

I give them 5 or 10 pages built using wordpress for free if they just signup to my hosting company. I have companies in my city as clients and I have some across the country away from me as clients. <<<< IT works you just need to give them something to justify the cost.

You can even do this without any money up front but having your website connected to your hosting provision would be beneficial to you.

What I stated above is enough of a golden nugget to help you without plugging my own source of hosting.
1) There are no enemies, but the enemies within, the enemies outside can do us no harm. 2) The best time to launch an offer was 10 years ago, the second best time to do that is today. So what are you waiting for? It's time to take action.

Hahaha....why? Cause I actually have a working experience?

Gee sorry to burst bubbles but I see a lot of folks floundering here.

Actually unlike the other ridiculous wso (which said set up fake biz accounts)
this one is legit..if u are a very desperate newbie and want to mess with thumbtack.

I wasted some time w this awhile back and it has gotten worse from what I hear from other locals....I actually was "lucky" and "won" 3 bids..with the worst clients ever. 1 was ok....some graphics but the 2 website/brand op were awful.
Wanted everything extra....no usable graphics...change mind...want 2 squeeze u. Just miserable

FYI - thumbtack seems to draw "queries" from broke craigslist type biz owners....they want a bargain. Specifically they want a very local usa bargain at "fiverr" prices.

If u are not in the usa forget it. Every one with "requests" wants usa..and in their own city. My 1 winning bid was in my own suburb. The "clients" (lunatics) will tell u how they wasted $$ on overseas seo, hate sales calls from overseas blah blah.

Now if u are desperate try thumbtack. At least this wso isn't saying to pretend to be a plumber etc haha....and won't get u a lawsuit like the other stupid wso might...haha

On the other hand u can make a cardboard sign "cheap websites and digital marketing"....stand a freeway exit near biz complex in u city. Might get better clients than the bottom feeders on thumbtack

And...it seems thumbtack emails craigslist requester posters - haha.
so u might as well just reply to requests on cl haha
