RE: [GET] 20 Courses by Brian Jackson ($1030 -> FREE)
Hi everyone,
In late February of 2015 I was reading some innocuous marketing literature when I came upon the throw away line: If you want something, ask for it. ---Unknown Rather than throw this line away, I made it my mantra during the next year and several more month as I asked students to leave reviews. The result was an exponential growth in reviews: 837 reviews in 14 months for 60 reviews per month or 2 reviews per day. But the real story is in the growth of the rate of my reviews as I continue to home my technique: this month I'm receiving 5.2 reviews per day... My growth in reviews can clearly be seen in the following live spreadsheet snapshot (typically double click the picture to expand it): Lesson learned. I now whole heartedly believe in what may very well be an underlying tenant of marketing (or certainly should be): If you want something, ask for it. ---Unknown Now, I don't want to give away all the secrets in my widely underviewed and underreviewed Udemy Course Marketing course, but I now find myself wanting to expand the experiment. But here's my condundrum: As my spreadsheet clearly shows (see row 33) the average star rating of my reviews drops as the rate of reviews increases. Jan/2016 78 4.76 Feb/2016 107 4.71 Mar/2016 131 4.45 Apr/2016 155 4.46 The drop in average star rating is clearly a direct result of expanding the range of students asked for reviews in deference to increasing the review rate. Now, I'm about to ask that together we take a step forward and expand my experiment even further... I'm asking you for your review(s). In fact, I'm broadcasting the request: Please leave me a review. If you've watched a course and have an opinion, I'd like to read about it. Also notice this, as the spreadsheet shows: I'm currently 105 reviews away from breaking 200 reviews this month And I'm only 129 reviews away from 1000! My Udemy Course Creation course is 19 reviews away from 100!!! Need I say more? I need a lot of reviews. More specifically, I need 129 reviews. Why? Because that's my goal. What are my Udemy goals? Students: 30,000 Courses: 24 Reviews: 1,000 Rating: 4.65 P.S. If you're a Udemy instructor or a writer, use goals of either lectures recorded today or word count written to measure your progress (if you don't measure it you can't improve it) and to see if you meet your goals. And reward yourself for meeting your goals! I've never asked for a review via a Udemy announcment before (that I remember). I'm anxious to see the result of doing so now. So, there you have it: Please leave me a review. Note that there are a couple of rules associated with the process of leaving reviews: 1) Leave a fair and honest review. 2) Watch a fair amount of a course you review. Just click on "Rate This Course" in the upper right corner of a Udemy course screen to leave a review. Yes, it really is that simple! Why not leave a review for someone else's course (if you haven't watched one of mine ;-)? Consider it, leave a Udemy review day :-). Which leaves me one last thing to say: Thank you. Note that the second rule of marketing should be to thank people for the things they do to help you in your career. P.S.S. I'll send an educational announcement once I have another one to send and have seen the results of this review request. And that's it until next time. I hope to see you in the classroom, ---Brian |
