I have just found this information which might help many of us to implement SSL / https: for our websites for free !!! Refer to Let’s Encrypt website launches in mid-2015 https://letsencrypt.org/howitworks/ Anyone who has gone through the trouble of setting up a secure website knows what a hassle getting a certificate can be. Let’s Encrypt automates away all this pain and lets site operators turn on HTTPS with a single click or shell command. When Let’s Encrypt launches in mid-2015, enabling HTTPS for your site will be as easy as installing a small piece of certificate management software on the server: Code: $ sudo apt-get install lets-encryptThat’s all there is to it! https://example.com is immediately live. Thanks for the heads up, this is significant news that will save hundreds of dollars on every website that I have, now I just need to find a web host that will support it.
Does anybody know of any web hosts that will support this? |

Hmm - seems interesting, definitely worth investigation..
I'm guessing it will take a few years before it's really useful - until the root certs get pushed out by microsoft/apple/google/linux distros/etc.. it ain't worth touching IMO :) I see Cisco is a sponsor.. interesting.. I wonder if they're hoping people jumping on board with SSL will hasten the need for IPv6 (and their kit) :) |

Arriving September 2015, you need to have shell/ssh access at your web server to install this service.
