Part 1 - Research



Like any type of marketing, research is crucial to your success on
Teespring. To start out with, it's a good idea to get some ideas what's
out there already. What kind of shirts are selling? What niches are
they in? Are they funny? Serious? Who's the target audience?



These are the questions you want to ask yourself when you're looking at
popular shirts out there. To start off with visit these sites to get
some ideas:

5. www.Google.com search for 'niche t-shirt'

These sites will give you ideas on what shirts are selling, help you
identify niches you could get into, and give you ideas for designs.

Part 2 - Niche Selection



Once you have a general idea what shirts are selling out there, it's
time to pick a niche. You don't have to stick with one niche forever. It
might take a few tries before you find a niche that sticks. Once you
do, you can rapidly expand and scale it. A lot of successful
Teespringers don't just do 1 niche though - they work in a number of
niches.



The goal for the section of the guide is to teach you how to research
and select a niche, and what steps to take in order to have success in
it.



Layering



Shirts that are highly targeted and speak to a specific audience are a
good place to start. People refer to this as 'layering' because your
shirt appeals to more than one thing.



For example, say you made a shirt for people in the military. This would
only be targeting one thing. Now, take a look at this example from a
Teespring campaign







This could be targeted at women who were in the military. See how that
appeals to more than 1 thing? That's what we mean by layering.



To illustrate this concept more, look at this pic from Teespring:







This shows where a good layered audience is. In the above example,
they're targeting a female, who is a paramedic, and cooking enthusiast.
Where those interests intersect is where your t-shirt design/idea
comes from.



You don't have to do layering, but it's an easy way to start with a very
targeted audience. Layering is especially helpful when you're going
after a broader niche. Say your niche was 'basketball'. You could
probably come up with a very clever shirt that would sell, but if you
target moms who like basketball that's a good layered niche. Your shirt
has a better chance to stand out because mothers who like basketball
will see it and go 'wow, that's exactly ME'.



Niche research



There are a number of ways to do niche research, and you should explore
all of them. T-shirt ideas are everywhere, you just have to look for
them.



What you want to find out about your niche is:



- What they like and don't like

- What jokes exist in the niche

- Memes that get used often

- Current or past issue that get discussed

- Causes that exist

- Groups that exist

- What they identify with. For example, people often identify with their career.

- Are they usually male? Female? Mother? Father? Grandparent?



I can't stress how important it is to know your niche. When you get this
level of insight, you'll be able to spot t-shirt ideas before anyone
else and get a jump on the competition.



Niche research plan



1. Go to Google and search for '[your niche ] forum'. If the niche I
wanted to research was the model train hobby, I would type in 'model
train forum'. Once you find a few forums, spend some time skimming
through to see what people talk about. Look at their signatures on their
posts too - they often have great niche specific sayings you can get
ideas from.



2. Find Facebook groups about your niche. These are invaluable. Look for
what people are talking about, what sayings they use, memes, jokes,
etc.



3. Keep up with current issues. While not all issues can be made into
shirts, it's a good idea to skim the news and see what people are
talking about. Some very successful Teespring campaigns have been made
out of current issues.



4. List out things people identify with - these can make great shirt ideas. People often identify with:



- Their favorite sports teams, or type of sport they're into

- Their career (teacher, nurse, etc.)

- The animals they own (dog breeds, cats, birds)

- The type of beer or wine (or other alcohol) they drink



These are just a few ideas. Take some time to list out all the ideas you
can think of. Make a list of popular professions people are proud to
be in, list all the dog breeds you can think of, etc. Doing this will
give you tons of ideas.



5. Go to http://www.socialbakers.com and look at Facebook pages at this URL http://www.socialbakers.com/statisti...otal/page-1-3/



You'll want to dig deep, many pages down, but this will give you some awesome ideas on niches.



6. Facebook Audience Insights



Go to your Facebook adsmananger, and click on the 'audience insights'
link on the left. Under 'interests' you can type in something, then look
at that audience in depth including demographics, page likes,
location, etc. This can be a great way to find layering opportunities
since you can view what other pages they like, and what other interests
they have.



Puns



I've included this in the 'niche research' section, but it's not exactly
picking a niche..just a type of shirt to go after. Pun based shirts
can sell really well, but they aren't as easy to find a target audience
since they have such broad appeal. Still there are plenty of people
who focus on the general 'pun' niche and do well. Pun's don't have to
be general though, some of the best selling pun based t-shirts are
niche specific. If you complete the steps above in the niche research
plan, you will probably run into these sayings on your own.



Puns are a great way to make a catchy shirt. These could be something
like a play on words, or a rewriting of something. This isn't my
shirt, but a great example of this:







Depending on your age, and unless you were raised by monks, you probably know the phrase 'me so horny' either from the 2 Live Crew song or the movie Full Metal Jacket where it originally came from. This is a funny play on that phrase 'me so hornet'...get it...hornet lol



It takes a little bit of creativity to come up with these, but it can be
a lot of fun to brainstorm too. Don't copy anyone's shirt, but you
can use them for ideas or to do a different take on them. A great
way to get ideas for these types of shirts is to learn more about
puns:

The idea behind a lot of these shirts is to use a pun - a word that has
multiple meanings, or sounds like other words (as in the example
above). You aren't limited to these ideas of course, this is just what
I've had the most consistent success with and it's kinda fun to do.



You can make these niche specific too! If you spend enough time
researching niches using the above techniques, you'll come across lots
of these.

Summary



This lesson showed you how to find other shirts for inspiration, and to
see what's selling well. It introduced you to the concept of layering
- designing a shirt that appeals to more than one interest (example -
a female who is a paramedic and loves cooking).



You also learned how to properly research a niche so you know what
information to collect about your target audience. Finally, you learned
about general ideas for shirts like puns.



As important as all this is, the most important thing is to start
testing your designs and see if they sell or not. You should spend some
time researching, but don't forget the most important piece of the
puzzle - taking action!

Helllo, I am so sorry. First of all When I created this thread and pressed the post button, nothing happened and this is why I thought that thread wasn't created. So I had no idea about this thread, I just saw this thread and your comment was bit of surprised for me. Sorry to say but didn't like the way you wrote here. I am not affiliate of affpaybook and there is no aff link to join that forum on my thread so how could you say something like that :o The link on very bottom for part 2 isn't to make people join.
