If they do regular updates, then it would be inconvenient to let the members first download and then upload to their WP installations. I wouldn't buy any theme that forces me to resort to FTP for an update.
Better are automatic update solutions outside the WP repository.
If these are used here, we're able to extract their update links with some poking around the code ;-)
Anyway - open links only alert the product owners... Hiding - by the way - does not help against indexing the links in Google.
You might try the Google cache display - and voila - the links are visible to the open eye. I doubt they won't show up in Google alerts...
