i dont know about this course because i havent seen it, but a silo structure can help in a few ways -
i.e.
1. direct people to specific parts of the site, this would help if you had specific banners/ads for just that part of the site, this would increase conversions + sales
2. a better internal linking structure - better for the pr etc of the site - but this is as long as the site has a lot of pages - or is going to have a lot of pages.

but again it depends on the type of site you are going to have, or are planning to have.
