It depends upon PHP version in use by the server. Old(er) PHP version might not complain about deprecated functions because a function might only get deprecated in the latest version of PHP. However, since hosting companies always update PHP and mySQL due top advances in programming, once something get deprecated it should be removed from the script, i.e. should be rewritten in a way that is supported by latest PHP version.
