It is actually very difficult to rank before Wikipedia because it is a fact that Google strongly favored Wiki and even take the content from it to place on the right side of some generic search results.
However, it is entirely possible if you have an authority site with aged domain and gazillions of backlinks in stock.
As for how ... hmm, i doubt anyone would be able to give you a clear answer.

It depends on your site's age and authority. Most young sites with little content cannot rank past them.
