Just look around. If its not in "local", it might be in "roaming" for you or if its not there look in "all users" folder instead of "your name". Also this is a windows 7 location. In Windows XP It might be in a different location but it is definetely there and this file is causing the error... If you can't find it manually, search for "tbs3settings.dat"

On a sidenote I think I've found out how this error occurs: If you're using the default thesaurus and you deleted "tbs3settings.dat" before, TBS will work without a problem. But if you change the thesaurus and close the program the bug is there again. So in my case, I can use any thesaurus but need to delete the "tbs3settings.dat" before I can restart the program. If you just use default thesaurus, you're fine with a one time deletion of the file. Hope this helps.
Hey peter, first and foremost.. Thanks for the reply.

1. Thanks for pointing out there are more than just one location for the file. I've look around and found 2 identical folder. The other one is under ROAMING. Just FYI, i am using Win7. Both location does not have the tbs3setting file.

2. So i opened up the software, tried to spin some article then closed it and end up with this file "UserDictionary.dict" under the LOCAL folder. So i figured out maybe trying to change the settings a bit but the darn thing wouldn't let me save any settings! Handle exception error thingy!

3. Opened windows explorer and trying to search for the "tbs3settings.dat" and still no luck. I can't even do anything inside the software without having the handle exception error dialogue box popping up which is really2 annoying.

4. I'm using the default thesaurus. In the end, i can't even properly close the program without terminating it from the task manager.
Aww man, sorry to hear that. However you can try the following: Can you login and change the thesaurus to another one with a doubleclick, maybe german or french and set it to default? If you can do this and close the program, this should create the tbs3settings.dat. Remove it and try to login. If this is not working for you because the program does not even let you change the thesaurus, try the following:
I assume you have .net 4.5 installed. If not, download it first and see if this solves your problem. If you have .net 4.5 installed, do this:

Control panel >> Programs >> Program And Features >> Turn Windows Features on or off >> look for .net framework 3.5 and enable all features for it. Now try again.
Also (if you have a license) check your hosts file in windows/system32/drivers/etc and remove the lines that prevent TBS to connect. Hope this helps

Hi peter.. I can login but cannot change the thesaurus since there aren't any other options besides the standard. So i tried to change the font size and some other things and save the blank article.. Opened up explorer under LOCAL, still no "tbs3settings.dat" but there's a new file though, "tbscustomdata.xml" Lol

I don't have a valid licence and this is a cracked program, i don't think i can change the host file and let it connect to the TBS site since it can verify my login id and find it invalid.

I've given up on this thing.. It is hell bent on not letting me use it. Undecided However, i'm really grateful that you are sincerely trying to help. And just for that, REP added my friend.. We could use a lot more people like you in this forum. Thanks again. Smile
When I run TBS, it asks to updated, and if I click cancel, it just exits. How do you guys get past this?

(I putted those two lines in hosts file)
