Firstly upload and activate genesis theme framework first (genesis1.8.2 already included) then activated child theme you wish to

Just upload it to any blog and update the framework.
Genesis is released under GPL, so if you got it from ANYWHERE, it's free to use and make changes.
The update server will handle all requests, even from non-buyers without questions.
This achieves two things:
-they can boast about the number of sites using Genesis
-they also ensure these sites will be top notch from a security standpoint, so their reputations will always be good in that regard
