› What is YOURLS

YOURLS stands for Your Own URL Shortener. It is a small set of PHP scripts that will allow you to run your own URL shortening service (a la TinyURL or bitly).

Running your own URL shortener is fun, geeky and useful: you own your data and don't depend on third party services. It's also a great way to add branding to your short URLs, instead of using the same public URL shortener everyone uses.

YOURLS is a set of PHP script that will allow you to run your own URL shortener, a la TinyURL

You can make it private or public, and a WordPress plugin makes integration with your WordPress blog (and Twitter) a snap. It provides wicked stats and analytics. There's an API. You can add plugins. It's free.

Install and run YOURLS

Download the latest archive (or svn co the current trunk) and follow instructions of the readme.html file

The best way is to get the freshest code from the SVN repository. Sometimes I just forget to make a .zip file of it :)

Install plugins for YOURLS

YOURLS is designed to be unbloated and modular. Feature is missing? Find a plugin that will implement it.

A note to WordPress users

You cannot run YOURLS and WordPress in the same directory (ie they cannot share the same .htaccess file). Refer to the readme file for more details
