Link Bait Development for PR8
I built up a Pagerank 8 in about 3-4 months using this technique.
Now have 300k+ backlinks in Yahoo and MSN. (everyone knows Google's backlink reporter is shiite)
Come up with an idea (usually an app, but a meme can work as well) and then make it very obvious on the site that all there really is to do is punch in some data, or better yet, just copy and paste some code into their site/blog.
Some quick brainstorming off the top of my head:
- Blog cosmos (what blogs are in my cosmos? use technorati data)
- What is the sign of my blog? (enter a URL and the site spits out the zodiac sign of the blog)
- What song would my blog like to listen to right now if it were human? (again enter the URL and somehow come up w/ a matching song for the mood of the site)
Some of these are probably a little too involved. But if you do something like this, I've found it works best if you force them to paste the HTML link code onto their site in order for them to see the benefit.
Use the http referrer code to determine where your users are clicking from and show the appropriate info then.
