Some related notes from my personal experiences, where applicable:
1.Godaddy
Be sure to check their renewal rates !!
All their pricing has gone up dramatically this past year and their service and support quality has gone way DOWN - I had several domains there and transferred them all to Namecheap for their better pricing (as well as better support IMO).

Nothing - and I really, seriously mean NOTHING good to say about this horrible company - they s**** you in and when you see how bad they are they do rotten things to you aimed at making you lose your domain.
I will never, ever use them again.
3.Namecheap
So far I've had a great experience with them and they have some great deals from time to time like .88/year or 4.88/5 year domain specials.
Great support so far too IMO.

It is good to keep abreast of domain services because they are very competitive (except for godaddy !!) and change alot.

When I tried them it was with a domain that I use for personal emails;
I took their 99 cent transfer offer - then found it was MANDATORY to use their hosting as well.
Tried to get things fixed so I could use my own hosting, but they played dumb and ran me around in circles for hours and then made it so that I couldn't do anything with my domain anymore - then sold it off to someone during my paid/registered time.
The new owner (with a Russian name ??) put it up for sale and even tried to sell it back to me.
I waited for it to be available again and grabbed it via Namecheap on special after waiting around a year to get it back.
So:
No more 1&1 for me - ever again !!!

As long as I aware, I have registered all the domains with a different domain registrar for cheap registration or 99cents, all transferred successfully to my Namesilo account without fail.
