Kimi's tutorial is much more detail. But.. this was done in 2012, and certain steps of this method doesn't work well anymore. For example, squidoo.com is not a dofollow link anymore, much of the web 2.0 sites are not do follow anymore. If you haven't notice the significant of this changes, then you are just following method blindly. Don't waste your effort on things that don't bring what you want.

I'd say study on your competitors directly, see how much backlinks that have, what are the types of links they have in PR or dofollow, what's their social share counts, THEN work your way to beat them in that numbers.
